Floor damage

Just noticed something gouged the floor in the kitchen which caused a piece of floor about the size of a quarter to peel up. What can I use to glue this back down and seal around the edges so it will not tear up completely?

I'd probably use some caulking adhesive that dries clear but first I'd try and figure out what caused the gouge.

There is a specific glue for vynil type flooring made by Armstrong. It is a low gloss kit # S 564 with seam cleaner, seam coating, coating de glosser and a spify applicator bottle. It says for all residential low gloss sheet flooring. I guess there’s one for gloss flooring as well. Big box store should sell it. I had the occasion to have to repair a slit in the vynil from a screw that extruded from the bottom of the slide. I used that adhesive to glue it down at the rip site and then fill the accompanying gouge with more than one application. Then I covered it with a strip of clear packing tape to protect it with intentions to remove the tape. I forgot to remove the tape and forgot about it until the day we traded it 3 years later. I can’t remember what I payed for it.
