Fresh water tank full, connected to city water only.

We've been at our site at an RV Park for about a week. Several times a day I check all tank levels. The fresh water has been at 1/3 full for months because we only stay at sites with full hookups. Just noticed overflow valve leaking water. Fresh water tank now reading full (was 1/3 this morning). Turned off city water and turned on pump and all faucets inside and level is going down, overflow no longer leaking. Have not had this happen in 7 years of RVing. What am I missing?

Probably a leaking/bad check valve on the pump. Since you ran the pump it may correct itself. Sometimes a small piece of debris get stuck in it.

Thanks, Grumpy! We're going to keep an eye on it to see if it resolved itself. It's going in to get a couple of other items repaired next week, so better to happen now than later!

This is one that needs to be put in a “sticky”. It is a common issue that comes up at least every other week. There are some of these questions that should be available for new owners that allows them to find those answers fast and without searching the verbose threads that seem to follow the question.

Yes, We were running our pressure at about 45# and no problem. I put it up to about 55#, and the same thing happened- overflowing when we came back from sightseeing. I put it back down to the lower pressure, and all is well. I'm sure it's a check valve issue, but will worry about it down the road.

I agree! Maybe even an entire section devoted to the "common" repeat problems.

You would be very smart to locate the water pump and install a simple check valve on the output of the pump.. doing so will insure you never have another issue water pump internal check valve letting your fresh water tank overflow...

It may be ok for now but it will most likely fail to close again...

Also a classic example of why you never leave the RV unattended with city water turned on... Always turn it off when you leave

All good advice. Possible bad check valve will be replaced, if non-existent, will be added. OK until we get home in a few days, but definitely will be corrected. And in future when leaving rig will turn off city water along with pulling awning in.
Thanks again all!

Where does one find plumbing diagram(Routing)for our rigs other than crawling behind connection points. I would like to know for basic info and if connecting check valves water filters etc.

Does Jayco offer service manuals?

Thank you, Rick

They only provide schematics which are non location specific in most cases.
