Fresh Water Tank Question

I have a new 2017 27.5 RKDS. I filled the fresh tank up and all the over flow water when into the underbelly. So it wasn't vented thru the underbelly. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it. While we were camping we ran out of water after the first night with two showers and washing dishes. My old trailer had a 52 gallon tank and we would camp for the week and never run out of water. So I filled the fresh water tank up until it ran out of the vent hose. I checked the gages and they said it was full. I took a 5 gallon pail and drained the fresh water into it and I got about 27 gallons only. It is suppose to be a 42 gallon tank and yes the water heater was already filled. This isn't right or am I not testing this correctly. Could they have only put in a 30 gallon tank by accident.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2016 27BHS. I too run out of water much sooner than I want.
My FW tank is 38 gallons with 6 more for hot water heater (total of 44 gal)
After about 2 days we tend to need to refill water, which is another reason why I prefer the full hookups. I have realized we use more water when the DW does the dishes, so I tend to wash dishes as much as possible (which is fair since she does most of the cooking)
Most Ohio state CG's do not have full hook ups so I try to park my TT as close to the water spigot as possible. I have about 125' of FW hoses so if I'm close I can usually make it 4 days before I have to empty the grey & black water tanks.
In hind sight I wish I had ordered the extra FW tank to double my capacity
Happy camping
