Friction hinge

I have never had one before. Does anyone like the friction hinge? Thus far, it just seems to make closing the door a PAIN

Tips?
Tricks?
Am I doing something wrong?

Entry door on my 2018 Eagle HT. All of my previous trailer have either had a catch on the exterior wall or a lift support. None have ever been difficult to pull the screen door and close the door from inside. This one is.

We are looking at a friction hitch too. Installed new aluminum one piece stairs on our 23' Jay Feather (which we love) and the piston door closer had to go. With the awning extended you can not swing the door open far enough to latch it to the exterior wall of the th. Only solution I can see is a friction hinge?

We have the friction hinge on our TT, takes some getting use to but you can lube it to make it work smoother. Just don't go overboard with the lube.

We had difficulty in getting our main entry door to open/close smoothly or easy without slamming it, etc. Found a screw head sticking out and was wearing a groove in the door frame, replaced it with a flat head screw, and it now closes like it should IMO.

Took some getting used to with us also. Kids especially. Takes a little extra slam. They're fine with it now.

Does it get worse as it gets colder, for you? It seems like it has for me. Temps in the 20s and I have to open the latch to get it to close.

Where was the screw that was interfering?

I am not sure about the TT door, but my door is 30" wide. So far this seems like an engineer's good idea that never used one in real life.

Can't speak about cold weather. We would have to open the latch to close the door from the inside before replacing the screw. Now we just close it in a more "normal" manner.

As you are looking at the door from the outside, lower left corner at the threshold. Screw was holding the trim/edging on the door itself and rubbing on the door frame on the wall itself. Screw had worn a groove in the edging along the door itself. Easy to see if you look for it.

I started camping in my new camper in April. We spent about 65 nights out this summer. My wife loves the friction hinge and I hate it. I think it's a pain in the ____ . My wife likes the way you can leave it open and not have to go outside to unlatch it when you want to close the door. I hate it. Did I mention I hate it. Nuff said.
