Fridge grounding issue?

Hello. I have a Norcold fridge, just bought this 2005 5th wheel yesterday which is a step up from my starcraft pop up that did actually have hot water and fridge but much simpler designs.

I turned on the fridge yesterday wanting to use the electric option. The green light came on then the red gas light(even though I put it on auto) and then the lights began flashing. Then all my plug in circuits GFCI popped. If the fridge is on it pops the GFCI. So just to be sure I plugged the fridge into an extension cord to my barn and it popped the GFCI on the barn too.

Today I put on new propane tanks and ran the fridge off propane and it works fine. My searches say there is an issue with grounding of the fridge. Does anyone know about this and if I need an electrician or if it is something someone can help me with?

Thanks!!

The fridge cooling mechanism works essentially the same on propane and electric. In both cases, a heater, called a "boiler" is used to "force" the refrigerant through the system. Sounds like your 120v heating element is fried. You may be able to change it out yourself, as there are several companies that sell the parts. Given the cost of replacing with a NEW fridge, I'd weigh that cost vs the cost of just sticking to propane use. It all depends on how much you use the fridge, and where you camp. More than 50% of my camping is dry-camping, so for me, it wouldn't be worth replacing.....

If you know what model you have (should be a label on the inside door jamb, on in the back access area), you may be able to order the part that you need from Norcold Parts | Norcold RV Refrigerators and Replacement Parts For Sale! - The Norcold Guy.
