Refrigerator #2

We have new batteries(3),new inverter,I fill the freezer with bags full of stero foam to lessen cooling load, installed a switch on the defrost heater to prevent it from coming on while towing and yes the door is firmly latched

Since it only happens when towing that pretty much points to the inverter powering the fridge. Get a voltmeter and measure the 120 volts at the fridge when operating off the inverter.

The batteries should be able to last for some period of time because they will get some small charge from the tow vehicle.

Maybe the fridge is not even being powered since it warmed up so fast.

X2 on the battery. We have towed 6 hours with no problem. Should be able to ensure the inverter is turned on by disconnecting shore power and check the fridge and see if it is powered by the inverter, open the door and see if the light comes on.

I'd bet the inverter is not on, either the switch on the inverter itself or the push button switch on the display on the wall.
Like others have said, unplug the trailer from shore power and open the fridge and see if the light comes on.
Also, like posted, I too have travelled 4-6 hours and my fridge is just fine. My fridge/inverter is connected to a seperate set of batteries that are NOT connected to the truck wiring, so they dont charge when travelling down the road and still lasts for a long time.
