From Trailer to Fifth Wheel

Last week end we took home our new 27.5RLTS Eagle HT. We will use it this coming week-end, though it will be real winter weather for North Carolina. The learning process will begin, and I will be asking your guidance about the issues we encounter with our rolling homes. I am glad to have joined your ranks!

Congrats and welcome the 5er family! Have you posted any pics? There definitely are distinct differences between a trailer and a 5th wheel. And, we love ours!

Congratulations! We made the same switch in November, but haven't had a chance to use the 5er yet

Back home.

It was great! This was our first time out with our new 5th. We were intimidated, but to learn and enjoy, you have to leave your concerns at home.
We arrived at the campground to find it empty. We had to battle with the hitch, but it finally got tired of our insistence and opened its jaws. Great views of sunrises over the lake, some short hikes, and back home today. A winter storm is arriving tonight. Another newby experience, backing this monster (compared with our previous 22' trailer) into its home. We came to the conclusion it did not like to part with campgrounds, so we decided to take it out again next week-end. We hope it realizes we mean business!
Thanks to all of you for your nice wishes. We will try hard (it is not really difficult.....) to enjoy it.

I have had that issue when I first got my 5W. I took a few times of fighting it and I realized it was always when I pulled straight in and parked, if I backed in no problem. I finally figured the pin was against the jaws pulling straight in. I now set the level, lock the 5Wbrakes with the controller, go to reverse at idle in the TV, then back to park. The TV moves back just enough to put the pin in the front of the hitch slot away from the jaws. Pull and it releases, happy days!

We picked-up our new 5'er, a North Point 377 RLBH, late last fall, but it was too late in the season to use it, so now we just look at it, covered in snow, on the side yard! It's our first 5'er, replacing a 27' travel trailer.... In 1989 we borrowed an Apache Tent Camper (basically a canvas-topped utility pop-up trailer. We've had two PUP's, a hybrid, and the hard-side since then. This is a huge step-up, and we can't wait to get out in it!
