Front Cap Fading on 2015 Model

Our front cap is starting to show signs for fading.
It's a 2015 Eagle Premier - built date 05/14

I've contacted our dealership who is in contact with Jayco about this.

I know there's been issues with front cap fading on earlier models.

Just wondering if anyone with 2015 or 2016 models have experienced or seen fading of their front caps.

Thanks

Welcome to the fading front cap club. Our 2013 was one of the first ones that encountered this issue with the dark front cap and the Jayco warranty process. I would advise you to take a few good pictures of the fading your VIN number and a short memo explaining where the fading is, the dealership you are working with and send them to service@jayco.com so that your issue is on record with Jayco. As soon as you can. Not that I do not trust the dealerships, but they have been know to work rather slow and lose information. The warranty goes by the purchase date and not the build date.

Just so you know, there are 2 solutions to the fading problem: (1) Jayco will pay to have the GelCoat sanded off the cap down to the fiberglass and repainted. We had our cap repainted the same lighter color as the side of the TT, which reduced the cap temperature from over 200 degrees in the mid-day sun, to 119 degrees (MAX). The front bedroom and wardrobe are so much cooler now, along with the AC running a lot less. Jayco agreed to pay for the paint, but would not warranty it, but the dealer has a 5 year warranty on their paint jobs, so we made out on that deal. If they repaint, make sure that the dealer orders side decals also, as the decals on the sides of the front cap are part of the TT's side decals and not part of the cap decals. You can probably figure out how I found that out.

(2) Jayco will replace the cap with a new one.

Good Luck,

Don

Hi Don,

Thanks for the info and suggestions.

I have taken pictures of the fading and sent them to the dealership. Got plenty more too if needed.

So far our dealership has been excellent with getting issues through the Jayco's authorization process and resolved. I just contacted the dealership end of last week, so for now, want to give the dealership some time to address this. But if there's no progress this week or next, I'll start pursuing the issue directly with Jayco as you suggested.

We took delivery of our unit in early June of 2014, so it's a couple months out of the 2 year warranty period, but hopefully Jayco will cover this.

Painting he cap the same color as the sides is an excellent suggestion. I'll have to keep that in mind. We do find the bedroom and the front closet gets very hot. Glad to hear that the color change made a difference in the temp.

Also good tip on making sure the all decals, including side decals are obtained, if repainting is done.

Again thanks.

I just bought a 2015 and Jayco paid to have the entire cap repainted and clear coated before we picked it up. They should cover it.

Sounds like a heck of a lot of trouble out there with dark caps, must be why Jayco painted the front on our 2017 the body color, NO MORE fading. Thanks Jayco!

It is not limited to Jayco, when I took our TT in for the front cap there were a lot of other mfr TT's (with dark front caps) in for the same thing. Even a half million dollar one!

Our 2014 Premier is fading as well. Waiting for Jayco to decide what to do.

We have 2013 Pinnacle and yes the front cap faded badly. Apparently it had something to do with the UV protection that did or did not put in the paint. I also know of some others with the same problem. I contacted our dealer who asked for pictures he could send to Jayco. They responded as said as a 'goodwill' customer service they would have the front cap repainted. This has been done and so far it looks great. I have a feeling they really didn't want us driving around with a relatively new rig looking like crap. Bad advertising for Jayco. Regardless it has been corrected.

My 2013 266RKS has not yet faded but it now sits outside in full sun. I would like to do something to prevent the front cap from fading. Does anyone know if having a paint shop spray the cap with a clear coat would prevent fading?

When I took our TT in to have the front cap fading cared for, I asked them about preventive maintenance... There is no preventive maintenance for the Dark Cap fading... it will happen sooner or later.

My front cap is white, so hopefully I won't have to go through this. I've seen white gel coat chalk up and craze badly, though. I keep it in covered storage. Hopefully being white and covered will be enough prevention... Sorry you all are having this bad experience.

noticed my front cap started to fade also near the top when I when to inspect the roof.

Since we full time , that could be a problem for us. How much time did your rigs stayed at the dealer for this ?

The dealers DON'T do the work they send it to a body shop, so time frame depends on how busy the shop is mine took three weeks.

Mine was in and out of body shop in about a week, but would've been sooner. This body shop wasn't 100% satisfied in the painting and wanted to redo some areas. This timeframe included filling rock chips and repairing some minor cracking.

Just received authorization from Jayco to have the front cap painted.

Now waiting for the front and side decals to be delivered to our dealership before scheduling an appointment at the paint shop.

Very happy that Jayco authorized this even though the trailer was out of it's 2 year warranty.

Is Jayco covering cap repaints outside of the 2yr warranty? We bought our '14 used so as far as I know the warranty is gone as it's not transferable.

My cap started fading this spring. So far I have just lightly wet sanded it with 1000 and polished and waxed it to make it look better.

Not sure what Jayco will do since you indicated you bought the trailer used.

I would recommend you call Jayco customer service and talk to them.

Our TT was in the shop about 2 weeks. Strip and paint was a week but another week to get the decals. Didnt like waiting but i loved the result. Jayco was great. Hopefully now that Thor owns the bramd they keel the same level of service and warranty.
