front grey water tank leaking

Our 2001 Designer is having a massive leak from the belly pan and it seems to be coming from the grey water tank.

we took the tank out and do not see a leak after we filled it with water.

any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

Seems like the other source(s) would the connection(s) that fill the tank. Before you reinstall the tank, you could plug the drain line(s) to see if there is a leak before it gets to the tank.

Before i removed the tank i tried to look over all the plumbing and didn't really notice anything leaking, but after taking the tank off and seeing that it wasn't leaking I'm kinda at a loss. the only way the tank would overflow is back up into the shower and sink correct?

What if a leak from a completely different part of the trailer is manifesting there by the tank? It's been known to happen. Water takes the path of least resistance to the lowest point. The origination of the water could be a long way away?

I was actually thinking the same thing at first. but it only lacks when the bathroom shower and sink fill up the bathroom grey tank. As soon as i empty the tank the leak stops.

Was worth a shot...

If it only leaks when the tank is full, perhaps it's coming from the transition from the drains to the tank?

From that description, it sounds like a drain connection at the top of the grey tank or a vent at the top of the grey tank or the top of the grey tank is cracked.

would you suggest to try and put some type of sealant on it and try to fix it or just replace the tank and the flanges that connect to the bathroom plumbing?

I would replace everything I could reasonably replace. I've tried to use sealants on stuff like this, and it's temporary at best.

I have a Jayco 2012 Eagle Light FifthWheel

In 2014, I had the front grey tank replaced - cracked connector - was dripping under the undercarriage mat when it had too much water.

Guess what ... I had the tank replaced again this winter ... same problem!

Thank God I had a warranty extansion ... which is finishing this year.

Wonder if the issue is with the tank design ...or simply that it might have a bit of space and moves when I am traveling with some water in it.


Officialy the dealer told me that I should not travel with water in it!!!
Thank God it's not the black water tank ....and too bad for the definition of a Traveling Traler!

Any feedback?

Am I wrong that the gray tanks have an air vent that the water could leak out of if overfilled? I know black tanks have an air vent plumbed to the roof but, not certain that is the case with the gray tank.
