Angry Front slide stress crack AGAIN!!!

We have another stress crack on our 2018 Jayco Pinnacle at the corner of the upper front bed slide. We had at the factory for the first repair, July 2019 and picked it up in October 2019. 15 months later and the crack is back. We are so disappointed and frustrated!!! We are hoping we will not have to pay for it since it is not in warranty anymore. I have contacted Jayco but no calls back yet. We bought it to travel since we retired in 2018. Has anyone had this issue a second time?

No personal experience but I belive there are a number on the forum that will likely chime in that are on their second round of the sidewall crack. Hopefully you'll be covered.

Did they put the expansion cut in and cover it with a piece of trim?

Mine cracked twice. 2nd repair is 13 months ago and no issues to date. I know there are others that have had it happen 3 times.

We had our crack rehab done at Vogt RV in Ft worth this summer and a very small crack appeared some 3 months and 1,700 miles later. Since then it has not grown. We are going back to Vogt RV at the end of the month for other reasons and they will look at it. I think it is primarily cosmetic as we have had some rough travel days with no enlargement. We'll see...

We had our repair done at Hilltop RV in the Twin Cities. I know it would be a 6 hour drive for you but may be worth it. They repaired the crack and then put in an expansion joint and sealed it. This was 3 years ago and has not reappeared.

2018 pinnacle flws out of warranty

I just sold our Grand Design to someone that was going to park it and live in it full time because we were having frame issues with it. My wife and I found this like new 2018, This trailer still had most of the inside stickers and things they purchased still in new boxes. I’m guessing that it might have been used once by the looks of it. We drove it home approximately 500 miles, during that 500 miles we developed cracks at both front slide outs . I’ve contacted Jayco and at first they told me they didn’t know that this had been a problem with their units. Showed them forum threads and then was told that I’m out of warranty and the factory won’t fix it there even if I pay. Does anyone know if this problem is going to effect the structural integrity of the trailer or does this just create a cosmetic problem. I saw somewhere that they were told to drill a hole at the end of the crack and seal the crack to stop it from getting worse? Frustrated new owner! Two trailers ago I had an Open Road that the king pin ended up in the
closet so frame issues make me nervous and my wife literally cried when this showed up!

Crack

We couldn't be more pleased with the response from Michelle at Jayco. She called us back in just one day!! We have an appointment to get it fixed back at the factory. They know it has happened on a few units after the first fix. They believe the brace is in the wrong place and will put in the new fix when we bring it in. Hoping they are right this time. Glad to see they are standing behind their product!! Between owning a few Jayco trailers we were impressed with the Columbus 5th wheel floor plan and purchased one. That unit had a water leak twice in the bedroom slide where you could put your finger through the bottom of the slide. To get the second fix we called every day for over 30 days before we were able to get through. Once that was repaired we went back to Jayco. Yes, this is a pain and this unit has been far from perfect needing an axle, furnace, etc, but being able to have your phone calls answered and the unit repaired is priceless!!

Have not had a second round, but when our 315 had that issue I sent an e-mail with a picture. Every thing that I have delt with Jayco on was documented by e-mail. Always document that way it is harder for your problem to get lost in the shuffle.

So far no 2nd crack, 1st was disallowed by Jayco, unit was 2nd hand bought in Feb. 2018 it's a 2018 model High Point. Repair had to be done if we going to use the rig. Local dealer in Rockport, TX opened the wall and low and behold leading edge vertical aluminum frame member intersection at bottom horizontal member weld broken. Repair at factory during manufacturing was to install a TEK screw in the weld root and call it good.
BEAWARE AND CHECK YOUR RIG DURING WARRANTY PERIOD, CK EVERYTHING.

Had 2015 Pinnacle Front living room model that cracked on both slide outs. Common problem. Jayco basically said tuff ****. Took it to local RV repair facility. He has been working with Lippert industries for awhile. Issue is too much flex in the box frame (less bracing due to slide opening). Lippert will not strengthen "due to weight" issues. RV repair facility stated max flex in overhang should be no greater than 5/7", mine was 5 1/4". Yes, cutting, repairing and putting in expansion joint is the remedy for the cracking but does not address the issue of the flex.

Yes. We do feel everyone’s pain here. 3 times the sidewall stress crack has appeared on our 2017 North Point 377RLBH. All 3 frustrating as we fulltime. All fixes done by Jayco Service in Middlebury, always towed by our dually pickup. Finally we got the expansion joint, but a diagonal relief joint and sealed trim strip.

L to R- First crack, second crack, third crack, third crack w/slide closed and hitched to show how it expands. Then final surface relief joint fix. They just cut the remaining direction of the crack down to the bottom, sealed it all with pliable stretch puddy. No more issues. Overall, each time (5 total visits) Jayco Service has been a wonderful experience, despite the letdowns of past two repairs. We would buy Jayco again as this rig has been great to live in and tow the past five years.

Get the surface repair like we got and be done with all the related stress.

Self-Innovation helps to solve this problem, e.g. decal or other artistic patch.
This problem happens through the whole RV industry since they started using this method, also with TT's, MH's.
Even a factory fix will not guarantee it will not crack again, it is sometimes just a matter of time.
