Furrion wireless observation system - with 2017+ F250 issues

Hi! New to the forum

Would like to know has anyone had an issue using any of the Furrion wireless camera systems with the F250, F350 years 2017+ (aluminum body). I just saw a post on e-trailer saying there could be interference issues due to the aluminum bodies.

Looking to put the Furrion wireless FOS07TASF on our new 30.5 MLOK
2018 F250

Thanks!

I've been debating on adding a wireless camera and found this video from Big Truck Big Rv that indicated he had reception issues with an aluminum Super Duty. He mounted an external antenna on the receiver to resolve the issue. I'm not sure that the Furrion models can be equipped with an external antenna but haven't researched that. There are a few manufacturers that are now coming with adapters to fit Furrion mounts to you can buy better cameras for less.

Why would aluminum be different than steel? Both are metal, both would block RF signals?

Bear in mind that Big Truck Big RV is on a freebie kick. If he had stuck with less “aggressively” marketed brands, like Furrion, he wouldn’t have wasted his time with that other brand. But it did give him video content... don’t lump all back up/observation cameras with that defective brand.

I had read that a "repeater" was included in some Furrion set ups. I have a Furrion observation set up for a 28' TT and '18 F150 but no repeater was included in my purchased set. Never lost signal to my knowledge unless it was when I was looking at a billboard more than the road (according to DW ) . LOL.

Your set up is longer than mine will be - so I think I should be OK. They say the issue is when moving (highway speeds).

Thank you - Great to know this. Maybe I'll get the repeater when I purchase - I'm going to give e-trailers a call and talk to them, see what they say.

No issues at 75mph, even after 3k miles of towing.

Honestly, the problem he was having was the poorly designed unit, not with the aluminum cab of the truck.

I had the same concerns when I saw his video, my truck hadn’t been delivered yet. Turns out the issues don’t apply to the Furrion unit. No repeater needed.

I chuckled when I read this because I have almost the exact same setup. I also can say this won't be an issue.

Truck is a 2017 F-350PSD.
Trailer is a 2018 30.5MLOK
Camera is a Furrion Observation mounted to the factory plate.

Camera works great and is very solid. I've noted a couple instances where the picture would stutter when being passed by large tractor tailers, but the impacst was minimal.

You'll be fine with that setup.

Thank you! That is funny that we have almost the same! Going to buy the camera system this weekend, no doubts after all the great feedback.

How do you like the 30.5 MLOK? Just found out today ours will be of the production line on 5/10. Ordered in January, so we are crazy excited to get it! Cant wait to hear how your experience has been.

I've used the system on both '17 F-250 shortbed and now a '19 F-350 Longbed with an '18 Eagle 317RLOK with no issues.

I have a 2018 GMC 2500HD towing a 339FLQS. 40’ 5er with 1 rear and both sideview Furrion cameras.

I have no reception issues and I use the 7” display in place of my rear view mirror when towing.

I know, its not a Ford. But the system is solid.

I have a 2016 F150 and a Jayflight SLX 212QBW and the Furrion was nothing but problems. Cut in and out while driving. Furrion claimed it was low voltage (12.3V at camera, checked with meter. Had changed all the trailer marker and tail lights to LED to cut down voltage drop). Then they said the antenna was too low and suggested taller antenna with 5db boost. Nope. Then told the distance was too far (approx. 40 feet) followed by "it's because Ford uses aluminum.

Ended up not being aware mount for bike rack had broken and 2 $1k mountain bikes had fallen off more than a mile behind on the interstate. Junked the Furrion and installed an RVS system developed for 100ft range on semis. Will see how that works.
