FW Lubricating disc

So we are picking up our new FW on Thursday..... first FW. I was roaming around camping world today in the FW section and saw pin box lubricating discs. Is this something I should buy or just grease the the two plates?

I've always used the lubricating disc and everybody I camp with also uses one. I don't think many people use grease anymore.

Definitely go with the disk. Or get the hitch I have--the whole horseshoe plate is made of HDPE (friction disk material)

Use the disk.

Like SB James, the 5th wheel hitch I used has an attached a HDPE surface.

Only exception is if you are using a slider hitch like the pullrite superslide. Can't use the disks. No movement on the top of saddle except hooking and unhooking anyway so no lube needed really. Whole saddle rotates when turning.
Pullrite says lube with wd40 only on the tubes and saddle surface.

I'm using a Reese 16K round tube slider hitch.

Read the manual for your Reese Lube the round slider tubes as defined by Reese. If it is a manual slider then you can use the lube plate I believe because it rotates the trailer king pin on the hitch saddle. The whole hitch can be manually released to slide to the rear.

On the pullrite automatic slider hitch the entire saddle slides on tubes to the rear of the truck as you turn. The actual saddle is locked to the trailer king pin so no rotation on top of the saddle happens. Different type of setup.

Disk for sure. Try to keep grease off the disk when lubricating the kingpin.

On my 2nd fiver, have used the lube disk, disc, plate, on both, very happy with them. If I get within 6 feet of grease or paint, it's on me.

You still need to grease the latch assembly, the rockers, and the hitch pin with a good water proof lube (marine grease) and keep hitch covered when not in use. Water dirt and dust are not your friend. I keep a short length of 3/8 chain and a good lock in an old red rag and a pair of gloves in a Ziploc bag. This is to wraparound the pin also when not in use, the rag doubles as a warning and a barrier to keep the grease on the inside and not on me, the lock and chain is a cheap theft deterrent.

So our dealer slapped a disk on the hitch at our PDI and called it a day, telling us that grease would not be needed. I think you could also use a NY style thin crust pizza with extra pepperoni to give you the needed grease.

But...your camping friends won't come over for dinner, when they see pepperoni all over the truck box! Eh?

I'm still using the same one I purchased 3 campers ago. It's going on 19 years.
