Gen. wont power microwave

I have a 2000 watt Yamaha generator that I have used for a year now with no problems. It powers everything in my 5TH wheel except of coarse the air conditioner. I have never been able to power the small High Point microwave. It only has A max power rating of 900 Watts. The generator will crank up high for a few seconds but then Kicks out. It seems to be just tripping out at the gen set and no fuses tripped in the unit. Has anyone else had this problem? My buddy has a Honda 2000 generator and has no problem with his. Thanks for any info.

The 2000W Yamaha is a prime example of misleading advertising.... It'll only put out 1600W of power, continuously. If your microwave is drawing less than that (check it's manual - they typically draw about 1.5x their output wattage) try turning off the 12v converter at the panel to limit where other wattage is being used.

BTW - I have the "2400W" Yamaha, so that I can get 2000W of continuous power.....

Also think about any other draw there could be on the generator. As an example the converter could be charging your battery at the same time your trying to use the microwave.

Converter charging batteries is one possible overload cause, and if your water heater is set to electric, that would be another possible reason for the overload situation, and also if your fridge is set to AUTO. My 2000 watt generator runs my microwave with no problem.

We have the High Pointe EM925RCW and the manual states the rated input power is 1350w with 900w rated output. So 1.5x the rated output is correct. I've run the microwave when my EMS is showing 0A used - when in operation it shows 15A on the EMS which is a little bit higher than the 1350w input. So it does generate considerable load. I have a Champion 2000w inverter rated for 1700w continuous and it works hard to run the microwave. It will do it but only with no other measurable load at the same time.

Not sure what your elevation is. If you are at 6000 ft. or above, all generators are starved for oxygen and will not produce the stated power. My guess is tho that you have failed to turn off your converter and haven't turned your refrigerator on propane. As someone else stated, the water heater needs to be on propane. I also have a high point microwave and have a 2000 watt Champion. It requires all of the above to be turn off. But it will run the microwave.

My Ryobi 2000w generator runs my micro but I have to turn everything else off including the converter.
