General 5th wheel Q's
I have a bumper-pull now but thinking about a 5er in 4-ish years (suspiciously timed with my retirement) and I'm wondering how many of you pull with a short bed. My current thoughts are an F250 or 350 SRW short bed and I'm curious if there are clearance issues with the cab. If you use a sliding pin type hitch etc...
I love knowing people that know things! It helps compensate for my ignorance.:hihi:

I have a Dodge 1-ton dually long bed be to pull my 5er but a buddy of mine has a 3/4 ton dodge with a short bed. He pulls a 41 ft toy hauler 5er. The truck pulls and handles just fine but recently he acquired 2 cracks in the front fiberglass cap, one on each side when he maneuvered to sharp a turns.
He doesn't have a sliding hitch.

I pull my 30.5BHLT with a short bed F250. Since the short beds are common, quite a number of manufacturers have designed around this. On my BHLT it was built with a Reese Revolution pin eliminating the need for a slider hitch and is completely automatic.
I haven't "locked" the revolution to see if I would have an issue so I don't know if there would be any clearance issues.

Mine has the Reese Revolution on it. I have a short bed truck and it takes all the concerns of hitting the truck off your mind.

Looking over the Jayco site I see the "Revolution" offered as an option on the "Super Lite" models but not on the "Eagle". I'm guessing this is due to the TT weight.

The Sidewinder (retail version of the revolution) has a model which is 19.5K so there is an option for the manufacturers. I have read on the forums that frames which have the Revolution are specially braced for the pin box, but not sure if that has been 100% confirmed or not.

We have been pulling 5th Wheels for the last 8 years with a 2003 GMC and now a 2007 Chevy short wheelbase crew cab truck.
Our previous 5th Wheel was a 2005 Jayco Eagle, front cap was not rounded very much so we got a slider hitch.
In the 6 years we owned / pulled the Eagle, we slid the hitch once as a precaution.
Now we have a Jayco Pinnacle and with the rounded front cap, I doubt we will ever slide the hitch again. Probally should just weld it in place!!!!

The Revolution is an option on the 2013 Jayco Pinnacles.

You just learn to be cautious with a short bed....or pay a hefty price. I have not had a problem in 4 years with mine. Just make it a habit to take your time while maneuvering backwards and a good lookout also helps. If I buy another TV, it will also be a shortie while still a weekender although I may decide to consider an 8 foot bed if ever we go full time.

My Bed is 6 1/2 ft So it is a short bed just not a short short bed. I installed a reese slider hitch in the bed. Have not used the slider yet although I should have a couple of times. I came very close when backing into a tight spot at a campground. I heard a screech and stopped. The Designer was rubbing on the rubber around the rear window of the truck. very close call it did put a mark on the 5th wheel. another time I scratched the paint on the truck while backing uphill and in a tight turn. Lucking no dent in truck. Even with a slider it is easy to forget you have one when in a tight situation and then it is to late. If I ever get another one it will be a side winder or one that will do it automatically. its to easy to forget to use the slider when needed, or that you even have one.

Shorty
Pullrite Superglide. Model 2700 fits in industry standard rails. Works in forward and reverse automatically so you don't have to think about it.
You can turn 90 degrees if you want. (Not too good for the trailer tires/axles)
All you have to do is spray it with WD40.

Reese Revolution
Sorry, don't mean to hijack your post, but I had similar questions regarding hitches and have seen the option for the Reese Revolution on the Jayco Eagle Super Lite HT's. I have watched numerous videos and finally figured out how it works. However, I have not seen any video regarding the inner workings of the Revolution pinbox. Is the Reese Sidewinder identical to the Revolution, but jst marketed under a different name? By moving the pivot point back 22" this would negate the need for a slider entirely in a short bed PU?

I too have a short-bed (6'4") pulling a 40' Eagle. I invested in a Pullrite Superglide; worth every penny...

I contacted Reese a while back about adding the 5th Airborne to my Revolution and I was told that I needed to replace the revolution with the Airborne / Sidewinder. I suspect that they are not the same BUT a frame built for a revolution should work fine with a sidewinder.
With a Revolution / Sidewinder, no need for a slider, and there's nothing to do.

The reese sidewinder and revolution both work exaclty the same, only the revolution is a beefed up sidewinder to Jayco's spec's with a different name. can only get them installed at factory during assembly.

I have a 2012 Jayco Eagle MKTS. It is 39.5 feet and I tow it with a 2010 Chevy Duramax/Allison 2500HD . My truck also is a short bed 6.5 feet.
I have been out a few times this year and have not so far had a problem.
My hitch is a Reese 16K with a slider.
