Generator question

Got a generator question: My pinnacle has a 50 amp plug, and I understand, that it is two 120 legs. So if I use two inverter generators with a Firman 1201 50a parallel kit. What happens when one generator shut down? Does half the camper loose power?

I looked at their schematic and to answer your question is NO. They are taking the output from each generator and just connecting them together. They then jumper the two legs of the 50 amp socket together just like if you were to use an adapter to plug into a 30 amp or 20 amp service. Nothing magical here.

The thing to consider is that a normal 50 amp RV service fuses each leg at 50 amps meaning you have a max of 50 amps for each side. Here you have a max of 50 amps TOTAL that is shared on the 2 legs. You wouldn't be able to power as much as you would normally.

It may work depending on what you need to have running at the same time.

Not sure if it would be the same but I run 2 3000 watt inverters for our 30 amp camper to run the 15,000 btu a/c. On a couple of occasions I woke up with 1 out of fuel an 1 runnin. The a/c was still runnin as was everything else. Had I not checked on them I'd of never knew one ran out of fuel meaning there wasn't a noticeable loss of power.
I have found that both do not use the same amount of fuel. One will use more than the other.

Jim D, thanks. I want to go down to one generator at night to keep the noise down. looking at the schematic I should be able to shut one down if I cut some of the load. thanks guys

In my other camper I used a 3500 predator and at night went to a honda 2000 with an extended tank so I would not have to fill up at 5 am.

Miners only run out about 3 times during 5 day trips in 4 yrs so I can't complain. An it's usually around 7 a.m. so I'm already gettin up.
