Grey Tank Lever Not Going All The Way In

Hi All,

Recently had our 31MB out for it's maiden voyage and when I got to the dump station and removed the cap there was gray water behind it, not a ton, but way more than there should be. On further inspection, it looks like 1 of the 2 grey tank levers won't go all the way in, almost as if there is something in the way. I tried pushing it in, but it slowly backs itself out.

Anything I should be looking at/for?

Thanks for the help all!

Had a similar situation with black tank. I was able to push hard enough and get it to fully close. However, there was still some fluid passing by the valve. When I took it in for some warranty work they put on a Valterra valve. See the link below. It will not fix the problem but eliminates the surprise when you remove the cap.

Yikes. That was the "fix"? I guess it works but that kinda seems like a lazy out. Heading out next weekend and the park has full hookups so I plan on messing with it a bit.

I don't know the layout of yours but on mine you could stick a hose with a sprayer on the end. Open the valve (tank empty) and insert hose end with sprayer about where valve is. Turn on water to max and twist hose to clean out seal. Could be some construction debris, trash down the sink or crud?. Take out hose and test to see if it slides shut. Repeat a couple times. If no joy then the best bet is to replace the shutoff if you can get to it. Here is a youtube.

X2. Under warranty I would expect a proper repair. I have often wondered how much the dealer charges back Jayco for some of their "Repairs" (example- replaced black dump valve....)

X2 what RogerR said about flushing out the drain pipe... I had same problem with my front grey tank...lived with it for about a year... my problem was that the grey tank drain had about an 8ft 1 1/2" run of pipe to the drain fitting where hose connected...so I cut about 7" off, added a new drain hose coupler and Valterra valve with hose connection on it...now I can connect a hose to city water and flush the drain pipe and tank valve...don't think it helps with the hole tank clean like the Tornado rotary tank flush that Jayco installed on the black tank (works very well by the way on the black tank)...but clears the valve blockage so now the valve closes easy as it did before....

Its a common problem in alot of RVs. When you get tired of foul smelling stuff coming out when you open the cap put a Valterra valve in and problem solved.

My dealer told me years ago that they do not make any money on warranty work compared to the times and effort spent. I don't think it's any better now.
