Ground Control 3.0 Aftermarket Install
Anyone out there installed or tried to install a Lippert Ground Control 3.0 auto leveling system on their Jayco? I have a 2017 27.5 RLTS and can foresee some challenges even though Lippert says the aftermarket system should "fit" the unit. Lippert's part number is 358590 for the aftermarket kit.
I would also be interested in seeing some photos of this system factory installed on a 27.5 RLTS. In particular the location and connection of the rear jack brackets to the frame and the locations of the front landing gear brackets in the cargo bay as well as a headroom look above the landing gear motor in the cargo bay.

I would be cautious of this unit. You have a lighter camper so may be ok but a lot of us have had many issues with the 3.0 but most have heavier rigs.

Not an issue on ours. The brackets are bolt on. The landing gear use the factory mounts. Running wire and keeping protected is probably going to be the hardest part. The rear sensor needs to be mounted correctly and very secure.

Ground Control 3.0 Aftermarket Install
I am not religious at all, until I have to use the ground control 3.0 or the large Schwentik slide. Then I’m wearing my yamika, on prayer mat facing east, asking Jesus for forgiveness.
Get the hydraulic version. I carry more leveling blocks now then when I had manual jacks. And that’s just to keep the legs from extending to far.

The hydros don't have much more stroke if any. I had hydros on my last trailer. Faster and quiet. Definitely stronger. But we weren't sure about the electric version. So I pulled as much of the hydros off my old camper as I could. So far we haven't had any issues. We camp in state parks and fields. If you use it correctly it will level anywhere. I do like that the system can control each jack independently or in manual. The hydros can't do that. They run in pairs. The electric can fine tune better that way.
Now electric on a huge 14,000 lb + trailer, I don't know. That's a lot of weight. I have a 12,000 lb Eagle and it works well. It would work better had they used heavier gauge wiring to the jacks. I haven't measured but has to be a large voltage drop.
Long story short, no issues and pleased with it. I have JT strong arms to install this season.
I've been told Jayco dislikes hydraulic anything so they use electric for everything. This is my first all electric trailer. I always had hydros on the slides and landing gear.

Mopar Earl,
Thank you for the reply. Both LCI and eTrailer said it would fit as you describe in your post regarding the front brackets and legs and bolting on the rear jack mounting brackets. As it turns out, my top front leg brackets are too high to allow room for the top of the front jacks in the compartment. My frame is six inch, so the rear jack mounting brackets will need to be cut and top holes re-drilled. I can make those mods, no problem. However, LCI will not sanction such things and recommends I relocate the front brackets. No way I am making frame mods on the fifth. So, do I make the mods to the Ground Control and install and be on my way or return it to eTrailer? Such a dilemma. Did you install yours? How long did it take?

Forgot to mention, the front jack mod would be welding on a new tab so I can lower the entire front jack in the compartment.

No, my ground control was factory installed. If you're near Indiana you could get LCI to install it. They have a facility for that. I took my other 5th wheel out there to have the hydraulic level-up installed.
Did your trailer offer the ground control as an option?

Thanks. Did not know LCI has install services. I will check on that. Ground Control was offered as an option and we did not order it. Big mistake. So, I was thrilled to see the aftermarket version and installation looked and sounded straight forward until I ran into the issues mentioned. Our five is only about 8500 lbs, so the system should be able to handle it easily. So, I am just gathering the courage to make the mods to the legs and brackets and install it. As with such things, there is always that voice in your head....

Yes LCI has a service center that they do installs and repairs. Custom work as well.

We had the hydraulic 6pt by Equalizer Systems in Elkhart install our system. I had read to many posts about LCI problems.
