Just finished mine yesterday. Sure tested the limits of this 70 year old body. I ran into the same problems you did. I also used a large "C" clamp Get final bolt in spring, but on the equalizer side. The end spring hangar brackets are also spaced 2-1/4" apart while the spring end and brass bushings are 2". I put large washers in to shim it, otherwise the brackets squash before splines sink in. Fun job.

I don't wish problems on others, but at some level I'm glad that I'm not the only one who struggled.

I noted the same spacing issue but I figured the manufacturer knew what they were doing with regard to the wider spacing - I did not add any spacers. My splines are only fully engaged on one hanger bracket. The others are perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 of the way in.

DJ, great news! My opinion is if was difficult and you got it done, it’s a 100% better job than a tech would have done. Enjoy the experience you’ve gained, you can pass it on to the next struggling RV’er.
I know only one thing; that I love knowing people that know things.
Congrats on a successful install!

The two shackles on the left are installed incorrectly, the spring needs to be above the equalizer. Think through the loads: the trailer frame needs to “hang” on the ends of the spring, with the center of the spring supported on the axle.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I doubt that this can self-correct, the spring would need to bend enough to shorten the spring by a couple of inches. But a load on the spring extends the spring (because the spring is “U” shaped) rather than shortening the spring.

Removing the load might do it. Put the good axle (axle on the right side in the picture) up on a ramp so all of the weight is on that side, perhaps the other spring will shorten enough to pivot the shackle around the equalizer when the load is removed.

Otherwise that inverted shackle needs to be removed and reinstalled correctly.

When i lifted he rv, i had all 4 wheels off the ground and the shackles ended up being reversed. I thought they would go back no normal when i put the rv back on the ground. Guess not

Looks like the heat index here is going to be around 110 F so I might be moving slow

Well job is all done, all in all it went smooth. If it hadn’t been hot as the sun out it might have been twice as fast.
The difference in the thickness is quite apparent in the new shackles.
The cheap plastic stock bushings are a joke, I can’t believe they install these.
On the passenger side of the camper one of the bushings was non-exsitstant and the leaf spring could wiggle around and started to oblong the shackle hole.

I am planning on doing my 28.5 RSTS this week. Doing the Lippert Correct Track with the MorRyde wet bolt Kit. Lots of good advice given here, Thanks.
