Hensley Trailer Saver

Thinking real hard of getting the Hensley Trailer Saver TS5 hitch for the 36SSWS we have on order. Hoping this may avoid the dreaded crack as well as smooth out the jounce coming off bridge transitions. It’s a lot of $$s. Is it worth it? Appreciate any input.
Thanks
Bill

I have the TD5 in a new ford F450. I still got the dreaded cracks but love the hitch.

Does the BD5F hitch head sit below the bed rail of a 2019 F450?
I have a retrax bed cover and need to know if it will close over the hitch when the hitch is installed
Thank You

I have 2020 F350. It is about 22” from the bed rail to the floor and by Hensley specs max operating height is 20” with the tallest spacer plates. I think you should be ok. However I am probably mounting a TS3 (max height 18”) Sunday so will know clearance with my bed cover then.

Yes it does sit below my cover and you can set it to any height you need to maintain at least 6” between the box rails and underside of your 5er.

I have exactly the same setup, 2019 F450, Retrax pro and BD5F. A great combo. I found the Retrax is a little leaky with water and think it's a good idea to get the cover for the hitch too and cover it when not using.

I'll also add that I did get the dreaded master slide crack, since fixed by Jayco at the factory. The Trailer Saver is a fantastic hitch but doesn't seem to prevent the crack.

One thing I did was extend / move / the inflate button and deflate valve (schreader valve) to the tonneau cover rail at the fender so I don’t have to reach over to inflate or deflate. I have the vinyl roll up type bed / box cover / and I drilled holes in the guide / lip channel to accommodate the switch.

Rashers
Did yours crack again after Jayco repaired it the first time??
Or is this your first crack.
I ask because mine was repaired at a local dealer and cracked again.
Jayco factory service repaired it the second time and I have only pulled it one time since getting it back in November

There is another long thread here about trying to establish a relationship between crack occurrences and the type of hitches used (airbags, hitches with dampers, etc). It's a great theory but I don't believe a conclusive relationship was established.

We had our crack repaired at Vogt RV in Ft. Worth. They do a boatload of the crack repairs and worked with Jayco on developing the current repair specification. We liked them. We had a new crack appear, but smaller and we believe it is cosmetic. But we are going back to Vogt RV at the end of the month for an unrelated slide repair and they will look at it. I'll report back.
