Hitch suggestions

We will be purchasing our new 5th soon and need some suggestions on a hitch. I have researched a few. My tow vehicle is a 2018 F250 Powerstroke crew cab with the ultimate tow package and 5th wheel prep package.

I really like my B&W Companion hitch. Do you have a long bed or short bed?

Ranfin,

Welcome to JOF

Here's another recent JOF thread on the same subject that may be a good read as responses to your thread question come in.

x3 on the B&W

I had a Reese and thought it was a good hitch until I tried the B&W.

So do I...get the Campanion slider. That’s what I have...I’ve only used the slider one time, although I’m not entirely sure I needed to. I just slide it back to be on the safe side.

Your biggest challenge will most likely be finding a hitch that will let your trailer tow level when hitched. I have read (but don't know positively) that the puck system hitches sit higher than rail mounts. If your trailer prep includes the turnover ball mount it is a very nice system as it leaves your bed clean when the hitch is removed. However, if you want to use an auto slide hitch you can't use the ball mount. Pullrite and Demco both make very good auto sliders. You also can't use a ball mount if you are going to use a pivoting pin box(unless you keep it in the locked position).
I tow with a B&W companion that fits my B&W turnover ball hitch. I have a short bed f250 and I configured my hitch to the rearmost position to give me the most trailer/cab clearance. It also has vertical adjustment. I can get about a 70/80 degree turning radius but I never turn that sharp as it puts substantial stress on the trailer axles and tires. I have never found myself in a situation where I needed to turn that sharply. My brother in law uses the Anderson ultimate hitch in his short box dodge and loves it. It is another one that adjusts for a good amount of rearward clearance. My brother and two of our good friends also use the B&W companion in their short bed chevys and we all think they are the best traditional style fifth wheel hitches available. I am not trying to start an argument it is just our personal opinion. I also really like the Anderson.
When you start narrowing it down you will also have to consider trailer to bed rail clearance in your leveling equation.
One last thing I will mention is safety chains for the Anderson hitch. My brother in law uses them and anchored them to the hitch so he can unhook them at the pin box instead of crawling up there.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy

I'm in somewhat the same boat. '19 F250 due to arrive in March, '19 Eagle HT 30.5 CKTS due in early April. I have been trying to find the height above ground (to the underside) and the same for the distance to the king pin plate so I can calculate how level it will sit.
I ordered the 16" tire upgrade, and I can put the suspension bolts on the lower hole to max out the height of the fiver, but I cannot find and specs from Jayco! I know my truck side bed-rails are 59" above ground, but have no idea how that will match up when I load the camper onto the hitch.
You'd think this is a common inquiry!
