Honda Generator EU2000i
Heyo does anybody run a Honda generator EU2000i with there 15,000 btu Coleman air conditioner? If so did you have to do any modifications?

I have a 15,000 a/c an I have to use 2 eu3000 watt generators. Contemplating one of those soft start kits so I can get by with 1 generator

I installed the SoftStart in my 15k AC and it make a huge difference when running the AC off a generator. Go to www.softstartrv.com and check it out.

Interestingly, I have a 13.5k A/C on my Whitehawk and I can use my Eu2000i to run it just fine. I do not have a soft start on my A/C unit.

I was able to run a Coleman 15k AC on a Honda EU2000i no problem once I put a MicroAir soft start on the AC. I also converted the Honda to run on propane so I can run it from the rig propane.

I was able to run mine of my eu200i if I flipped every other breaker off to start it, and ran fridge and water heater on propane. Depending on the elevation and battery state of charge I might have to turn the converter off while the air conditioner was running.
After I put an easy start on the air conditioner I didn’t have to flip off all the breakers to start it. I still had to watch the batteries/converter. It couldn’t run the air conditioner and converter in bulk mode at the same time. I tried to always get the batteries charged first thing in the morning when you don’t need the air conditioner, and then could run the air conditioner in the afternoon when it’s required. Try and get the trailer cold before bed time, and then turn it off for the night.

I really recommend the propane conversion, modern gasoline has ethanol in it and is a disaster for small engines. I used to run the generator dry and then flush the carburetor bowl by running in some ethanol free gas every time I stored it. Propane never goes bad and leaves the carburetor clean so I can just put the generator away when I am done plus you already have propane on the rig and don't need to bring gasoline with you. Just check your EU2000i serial number and make sure it is new enough for the conversion.

Where I live, propane is bigger hassle to obtain than E0/clear gas. Eg, I can pull into one of 4 pumps at the Maverick to get E0, or wait in a long line for an attendant to fill my propane tanks at the equipment rental or hardware store. Propane delivers less power per unit than gasoline, and depending on elevation may mean not be enough power to run the load OP is planning to run.

^This.^. For my boat and small engines, I always run rec fuel. No ethanol, and I can leave it in for months with no issues.

My experience is that I've used regular octane gasoline with ethanol in my 10 year old EU2000 Honda for the last 10 years and never had a problem. I've used it boondocking in Quartzsite as my main power source, and know that it has well over 5000 hours of use.
When I put it away for the season I run the tank dry, drain the carburetor bowl, then remove the spark plug, add a teaspoon of oil to the combustion chamber and cycle the piston once. After replacing the plug it's stored away for months.
When I restart it, it takes 13 to 15 pulls to get gas from the tank to the engine, and after that it starts with one or two pulls every time.
So out of curiosity, what kind of damage does ethanol do to an engine? The only thing I've noticed is that the last few years I've detected a kind of sour smell in the exhaust, but the exhaust is still invisible - no smoke.
Maybe the fact that I followed the maintenance schedule and replaced the oil and cleaned/re-oiled the air filters after every 100 hours of use (more or less) made a difference. The spark plug was replaced with a new one 2 or 3 times per season too.

I have 2 Yamaha EF2000iS Generators. However, ONE will run my AC and lights and refrigerator. But since I have 3 girls that camp, I use the second for coffee maker, and other electrical stuff. I don't need to be as conservative with 2 as I do with one.
ALSO, The Yamaha Generators have a fuel shut-off to shut off the fuel to the Carburetor, Therefore allowing you to run the carburetor bowel empty. The Honda's DO NOT!

The problem with ethanol is when you store the generator with gas in it the ethanol gums up the carburetor. You are draining the carburetor bowl and that prevents the problem but when you are going to store your generator you have to run it dry and drain the bowl, running mine on propane, I just shut it off and store it. All I have to do now is change the oil periodically. The propane keeps the spark plug cleaner too so it lasts longer.
Last summer I boon docked for two weeks and I brought my EU2000i and my EU2200i with a 40lb propane tank to run them. I made it through the whole trip on the one tank, no refilling, no spilled gas.

Every time I use my Champion 2000w inverter genny, I shut off the fuel valve and let itself run out of gas and I use regular ethanol laced fuel, but I add this additive to every tank. Matter of fact, I add this to all my small engines. Makes everything run better.
