How much antifreeze?

Going to try winterizing myself this winter (wish me luck!) and am trying to find out how much antifreeze I’m going to need. I have a 2012 Eagle HT Superlite 26.5. Thanks for the assist.

O' yea Welcome from Georgia. Wondered why you were talking about winterizing when it's still in the 90's but did not see you where from Alaska.

I can get by with just over a gallon but here in south Texas (the “Other” big state I’ve been told) 25F is a brutal freeze.
If you have washer-dryer connections be sure to address them and don’t forget the tanks, HW tank and P-traps. Ask yourself “where can I find water.”
You guys are so far north I’ll bet you can easily see Santa as he is climbing for altitude on his way to the lower 48.
If your local RV service folks are friendly (and competent) maybe you could ask what their punch list is.

Thanks for the reply. We’re located 150 miles south of the Arctic Circle here in Fairbanks & we require the -100* RV antifreeze.

If its that cold why not just blow out the lines and skip the antifreeze ?

Two gallons was good for my 23 foot trailer. Make sure you empty the hot water heater tank and bypass the tank before putting in the anti-freeze.

I guess that’s another question I have. There seems to be those that only blow out the water lines and those that blow out the lines and use antifreeze. Not sure if either way is as effective as the other?

Either way works really. No need to blow them out if you're adding AF. Just run the pump until pink comes out of the faucets. And add a smidge to the p-traps as well.

My 33 ft travel trailer (28BHBE) would take almost 3 gallons between the lines (almost two gallons right there), the P-traps and the black and gray tanks (you want to keep some in there so the seals stay wet).

I live in TX, so we don't get temperatures like you do. I started blowing my lines with air and I never was confident I was able to get all the water out. If I were you, I would blow the lines out AND use AF. Broken water fittings suck to fix, and you're dealing with some pretty extreme temperatures.

Don't forget to run the anti-freeze out your city water connection, and don't forget your outside shower.

I agree on it being a good idea to do both, plus I understand that the antifreeze helps to keep the seals lubricated in your plumbing system too. Thanks for the sound advice.

Be liberal with the use of the antifreeze especially in Fairbanks. It's a cheap investment to protect your expensive investment. I live in Indiana and use around 4 gallons because I put a lot in the P traps and the tanks for protection. These guys that are only using a gallon or so are probably getting by in their respective environments but I could never do it with so little. Last winter we had a string of days that the lows were -10* and I'm glad I had the extra antifreeze in there.
