How much slope for my Slide Toppers

I bought two Solera slide toppers for the back side of my HT (door side will need a different brand as the flange is only 2 inches from awning arm). Nothing in the Solera manual gives a clear indication of where to put the rail. One spot says "3 inches above the flange", but since slide flanges on different vehicles are different heights (i.e. the top of the awning roller varies) that doesn't give me any confidence. Etrailer has a nice install video that explains how to mark for the rail, but now where to mark for the rail.

I know I want some runoff, but I don't know how much. Maybe one inch per foot? I am concerned about mounting the rail too high, such that when retracted I've created a layout that flaps in the breeze going down the road.

Thoughts? Measurements off of some of your factory toppers?

FYI, if you angle them, then the rail on the trailer wall needs to be angled as well, otherwise, like you mentioned, you will get a sail.

I have installed 3 Solera toppers on 2 different rigs. I placed mine 3" above the flange. I am certain I read 3" somewhere.

That is what the Solera manual says.

My problem is that the flanges are different heights, so if you attach the brackets immediately below the flange, the top of the roller is at different heights. Even my wardrobe slide as a different height flange than the living room slides. So if it is always 3” then the slope will be different for different slides.

Ah, I remember now … my wardrobe slide flange was 6" and my living room slide flange was 4.5" so, I made a bracket to accommodate the wardrobe slide. See my pics here: https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...tml#post582321

Thanks for the link, that explains a lot. I will offset the rail based on the difference between mounting below a 4.5" flange and the actual mounting location.
