How to add an additional 30A outlet to the front???

Greetings, I put a question out here a while ago asking for specifics on how to add a 2nd 30A outlet to the front of my North Point. Several people chimed in and said “I use mine all the time”, but no one could answer how to install it. My 50A outlet is near the rear of my camper which is great for regular camping. But I have a stand-alone Champion generator stored in the front compartment that has a 30A plug on it. The problem is that 40 feet away from the rear of the trailer. I’d like to keep the generator under the front cap to keep it out of the elements when the power is out and it’s raining. So an outlet mounted high on the battery compartment door would be great. Can anyone tell me how to tie that outlet into the mains on my trailer? Thanks

A simple question, how long is your main power cord? There is nothing wrong with using a 50 amp cord with a 50amp to 30amp adapter connected to your generator up front if its long enough.. If you just need an additional short length to the generator, then you can make a short extension to make up the difference , with the proper ends on the cord.

For sure the easiest and cheapest.

Thanks for your feedback. I believe my factory 50A cord is 25’ and I have an additional 25’ 50A extension cord. Both weigh a ton! So I have enough cable to reach back there. But with this new trailer I have ZERO storage space compared to my last trailer. Just having to haul (2) huge power cords doesn’t excite me at all. That’s why I’d like to be able to plug in a 8’ 30A cord right into the front of the trailer. Call me spoiled I guess!!!

Well do you have any areas under the main part of your rv down the side of your current plug in that you can sit a regular water proof box in or on an outrigger for the frame? If you do then just create a short 30 amp cord from the front mounted to the frame or in the underbelly to the box that your 50 amp cord with the adapter will reach. Then your extension cord is rigid and in place. I have a picture of what I did from my inverter, just for my outside cord to my plug in.

If you cannot get to your current panel to run a dedicated cable to your power panel from a plug in foward, the simplest method would be to set a 30 amp plug up foward in the area of your generator and run an underground cable , which is waterproof along your main frame back to a 30 amp waterproof box to an area that you can reach with your power cord. This is on one of my outriggers.

Then use your adapter to your short 50 amp cable. Hopefully this will give you something to ponder. I did this early on and double wired selected receptacles for a quick use inside with a cord to the inverter cord plugged into the inverter, which is not shown. You will need a transfer switch if you create a more permanent setup to the panel from an inverter, for anyone looking for a different setup from what you are attempting to accomplish.

If your camper is generator prepped. There is 50 Amp cable already run to the front from the transfer switch. Mine has it since its generator prepped. I just added an additional 50 amp plug inside the compartment and use a 50 to 30 adapter to plug into my generator or Anker F2000. Otherwise, you could add a transfer switch somewhere between the 50Amp plug and the breaker box. Run a new wire to the front compartment. Won’t be a cheap project. 6/3 wire is expensive. Or buy a lighter 50’ 30amp cord and put the adapter at the 50 amp plug? But then you are carrying 2 cords.
