Hwt question

I am camping this weekend and I was speaking with the owner of the campground, he mentioned shutting off the hwt and draining/flushing it out atleast twice a year to help remove debris buildup. My questions is: once the hwt is shutoff and I drain the hot water in the sink, do I remove the plug on the hwt and turn the water on to the camper supply and flush it out? Im not having any issues at the moment with the hwt but I was just wondering if I should do that tomorrow when I tear down?

Anytime my trailer will sit more the a few weeks I drain the hot water tank by removing the plastic plug. This should flush out the tank, as 6 to 10 gallons will pour out depending on the size of your tank. If I leave our well water in there it will smell bad after about a month. I learned about that the hard way.
