In search of new tires

Looking to replace my Goodyear Endurance tires. Looking at the Hartland ST Radial All Steel G rated tires. Their max pressure is 110 psi. GY is 80. Would I still run 80 on the Hartland or max at 110? Would the current rims withstand the 110 psi or should I just stay with Goodyear Endurance?

That depends on what the weight rating for the PSI is on the new tires. The GOODYEAR ENDURANCE has a 3640 load rating for the 235 and 4080 load rating for the 255 at 80 PSI.

I know the GOODYEAR G-614 is lower than the ENDURANCE at the same PSI

What is the Heartland at 80 PSI?

The max pressure for the rims is probably stamped on the rims on the inside. I would think that upgrading to a 110 tire would be worthless on an 80lb rim.

What size tires do you have? I do not know anything about Hartland tires.

I have not heard anyone post the OEM tires maxed out the OEM rim. From what I have read everyone has been able to go up at least one load rating.

The rim ratings can be stamped in two different spots. 1st, inside the rim (totally obstructed with a tire). 2nd, behind the rim, you may need to remove the rim from 5ver to locate the stamp, could be on a spoke or on the casting.

I called Jayco, with my vin number and asked. In my case they did not know, they suggested contacting the manufacture. Jayco gave me a contact number and they were able to helped me. FYI, my rim is not stamped on the outside.

I have 23585R 16. The Hartland G rated has a load index of 129 @ 110 psi with a limit of 4079 lbs. I don't know what it is at 80 psi.

Exactly. That's why I'm asking.

I agree with the other poster, you need to crawl under your rig and look at the backside of the rim. If you can't find a rating stamped on the rim, you'll find a manufacturer name and model. When I crawled under my rig to check my rims, I found the name and model and then Googled it. My rig came with 65PSI tires and I went up to 80PSI tires because my rims were rated for it.

Mine came with Endurance, Made in USA. They are dependable tires, according to most people who post about them. The only problem is that the tread is too thin. If I found a tire that cost 1.5 times the price but goes twice as far, I don't know if I'd throw more money at tires, because we still have the weak axles, springs and spindles that will eventually fail and grind down any tire you put on them.

Endurance is mid-priced, made in USA, and more reliable than the trailer we're putting them on.

It's a good fit, I'll stay with them.

I don't know about mid-priced! In it's class (e) rated, the Endurances are expensive. That being said they are high quality, high speed rated, and durable. I wouldn't consider anything less for an 80 psi tire.

Got word back from my dealer who called Jayco who told them treddit was the manufacture of the rims. Dealer called Treddit and was told the rims max out at 110 psi so they can handle the Hartlands. Don't get me wrong, I like the Goodyears just as much as everyone else. I was just looking at options other than them. What's funny or scary I should say, the GVWR of my 355mbqs is 14,900 pounds. Four Goodyear Endurance max out at 14,552 lbs. So Jayco is sending out RVs that already exceed the max weight of the tires if the fifth wheel maxes the GVWR.

Right, they are expensive, but the Asia bombs are a last resort, so I don't consider those prices, and I guess I was comparing Endurance to the next step- G rated.

NO! You have to deduct the hitch/pin weight. That is on the tow vehicle not on the tires.

Yea would guess your 355 has close to 2800 to 3k on pin at max gvwr. So around 12k on those axles. What are axle ratings? Probably 7k.

Yes, 7k axles and last time I was on cat scales it was around 3100 lbs pin weight.

I would simply run the tire pressure stated on the tire by the manufacturer and wouldn't worry too much about your wheels. Stick with trailer tires as you'll want sidewall strength.

Regarding this comment:
The max pressure for the rims is probably stamped on the rims on the inside. I would think that upgrading to a 110 tire would be worthless on an 80lb rim.

Anything over your 80 PSIG rated wheels is dangerous!
