Installing a Norcold N10DC in place of a N811
I was told the Norcold N10DC (10 cf) is a direct replacement for the 8 cf N811. There are two problems with this conversion. The first is removing the N811; at least in my unit (2017 28.5 RSTS FW). Unlike the You Tube videos where once the screws are removed you simply pull the unit out; my fridge had a c-shaped metal channel at the bottom that fit over the bottom wood rail. Not only do you have to get this channel up and over the wood, Jayco decided to use an adhesive just behind the channel and seal it to the plywood base. The fridge was tilted forward and 1/2” thick blocks of wood were shoved forward under the fridge as far forward as possible. This was done to help break the seal and lift up the channel. A screwdriver was used to pry up a corner and then a butter knife used to hold the channel above the wood rail. More prying and knives were used to complete the process. Once the old fridge was removed, the new one was installed. The second problem is the N10DC, if installed in the existing styles will not allow the slide to close. The fridge will hit the island. Woodworking has to be done to recess the fridge deeper into the cabinet to be able to secure it in place. The doors are much thicker on the D10DC (3”) than the N811 (1.5”).
