Interesting bike rack

Seen this yesterday on the DC beltway and had to share.

Certainly better than most I've seen with bikes bouncing around dangerously. One thought though - cops might be invited to pull them over as no licence plate is visible.

Interesting and clever. Did you notice the extra wheel in the back?

I see many trailers on the road where the plate is hidden from easy view. I don't think anyone gets pulled over for it.

I dunno, conventional wisdom is that the rear ladder is not made for constant load like that, and can eventually rip out from all the bouncing on bumps.

And that wheeled package tray has been known by LEO to be classified as a tandem trailer, which is a big no-no in most east coast states.

Thanks. You just don't see them too often. I bet it's been 10 years since I've seen one on the road.

Different situation but it sort of reminds me of the helper hitch on Lucy and Ricky's old movie the Long, Long Trailer. I've never seen one in actual use, but here's a link to a company that makes them. https://mrtrailer.com/hellya.htm Seems like the single wheel version would cause a nasty problem if the tire blew.

I used to carry my two bikes on a rack mounted to a bumper clamp hitch. Bounced around way too much even with straps on them. Now there ride in the basement. I've seen them mounted to the ladder but no way I'd haul mine there.

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this, that's what prompted me to take a picture. I think it's very cleaver, at least the motorcycle part.
The bicycles on the other hand... no way would you catch me with one hanging on my ladder - let alone two! Our ladders are only attached with a few screws. They might withstand a couple hundred pounds when we climb up them - but not all that bouncing going down the road... no way!!

doesn't a trailer have to have signal lights?
