In the original post I read there was a cross post quoting the actual driver. I'll paraphrase for those who haven't read it.
He admits fault. Said he realized the light was changing too late and pressed on through. Bad decision. Light timing was a little off too per CHP. Which didn't help him any.
This has nothing to do with weight. He just made a bad call. I've done it too. My take away from this is in reference to speed managment on a road with multiple lights. Do not go the speed limit. Go a little slower. 1/2 ton, quarter ton, pop-up whatever... Go a little slower. He may very well could've been able to stop, but didn't try. Just felt he was going to fast to do so and pressed on.
I've never taken my truck and trailer up to speed (40-50)and done a full pedal to the floor emergency stop. I really have no idea how it would peform, so I might have done the same. Since I don't really know, I'll just run a little slower when there's a series of lights or when I know a light is ahead.
