Is this a normal hitch weld?

I just purchased a Hensley BD3 hitch for my fifthwheel and told them I was going to use the MorRyde Orbital pin box. The manufacturer then added the two pieces and welded them to the V-opening. I assume I still need to use a wedge but it seems these welds weren't necessary but perhaps it will help. I have no idea. Comments?

I installed the same hitch 4 months ago and they never asked which 5th wheel pin I was using. My operates like it should (recently travelled from Ontario to Florida). I can’t understand how the added weld on flanges would improve the hitching operation or Mor Ryde set up. The gentleman I spoke with at Hensley is Aaron Grayhek.
I’m curious to know what he would have recommended.
I own a 2015 pinnacle 38’ FLSA with the MorRyde orbital pin box.

Those flanges they added are for the wedge to have something to butt up against so only the swivel at the rear of the pin box rotates. If one of those flanges break you will be in a bad situation as both kingpin & rotation point will swivel The catch plate needs to be redesigned in my mind for those swivel pinboxes.

? That appears to only support alignment engagement. Every hitch manufacturer’s hitch pivots in the same manner and we don’t see them adding the extra material. Anyways I’ve sent the manufacturer ( my contact) this picture and an inquiry as to why it would be required.

Those orbitol pin boxes rotate at the rv attach point not at the kingpin. You bolt a wedge right behind kingpin so the catchplate must have something for the wedge to disallow turning at kingpin. The Reese version on my buddies shortbed & 5er only one I have actually seen. He has a Husky and it didn't need any mod to catch plate
