Is this a problem??

Bought a new 2019 317RLOK. When we got up on roof we noticed this. See attached pics. Are these “wrinkles” normal? These are at the front of the 5th wheel roof

Thank you for your input and help

I wouldn't call the condition normal, but I have seen them on occasion at both front and rear roof/cap joints. They develop at assembly when the EPDM roofing material isn't placed flat/snug during the application of the metal trim piece.

I would approach your dealership that it's unacceptable and your concerned about potential future issues with the raised EPDM (especially being the front roof/cap joint). I would at least have the issue formally documented (with photos) within the Jayco system (get a copy).

Looking at your photos I would request your RV dealer to apply additional caulking along the metal trim piece, especially on the EPDM side of the trim piece. Not uncommon for these joints to be shy of adequate caulking.

Future consideration: Apply EternaBond sealer tape along the roof/cap joint.

I agree with Rustic Eagle. I also have seen that area lacking in caulking on several newer units. I cleaned mine and added a 6 inch layer of Eternabond all the way across the front cap/ roof joint and also a 4 inch piece at the rear.

I would get the dealer to add more caulk to the area and document it with Jayco, as suggested.

I had that done on another brand and never had any leaks but it makes you sleep better at night if it is noted.

Those wrinkles may change as the weather changes. I would just run a strip of enternabond tape right over that sealant from side to side and be done with it.

I wouldn't be concerned unless it gets worse. Mine does it too..and sometimes in different areas.

X2! jloco.

My roof had just about the same wrinkles when new. I purchased my rig in April 2015. By the beginning of that July all the wrinkles were gone.

I just inspected the roof this past weekend... tight as a drum.

I would not let the dealer "monkey" with the roof as IMHO would cause more issues than solve.

I had a 2007 Eagle TT with several areas that had wrinkles pretty much from the get-go.
Though they never really went away, they did not get much worse in the 11 years we owned it. Mine were at the skylight near the plumbing vents. I had some experience as a commercial rubber roof contractor and knew it wasn't likely to become a problem, but still watched it. I also routinely inspected the roof and applied Dicor Lap Sealant when needed.
I certainly won't hurt you to document it and make sure Jayco knows you have a concern about this so you have recourse later if it becomes an issue.

I agree with those that say use Eternabond and be done with it. Our TT is a 2016 model built in 2015. We bought late Sept. 2015 at a RV show. The calking or dicore was cracking last spring (three years old?). I used Eternabond on all the straight areas and new Dicore on the round areas. Across the front cap I used 2 strips of 4" Eternabond tape, because 4" is what I had. I would have the dealer look at it and make notes since it is a new trailer.
By what is posted about how fast dealers are working on things, the dealer may have your trailer all summer trying to fix it.
