Is this normal? Propane Genny Question

Just had a power outage at the ol trailer park. It gave me a chance to fire up our propane Onan 5500 generator on the 19 pinnacle. Only had 4 hours on it. Ran it for a hour and a half and it worked great. Power came back on and went out to switch back to shore power. As I was coming into the 5th wheel the gen area smelled hot. I opened the hatch and wow was there some heat in the hull! Is this normal? No damage noticed but wow the whole storage area was hot as can be!

Yep, they generate a lot of heat. They are air-cooled. It pulls and expels it's cooling air from the bottom. But the compartment will heat up from the radiant heat from the genset.
Be sure to run the genset without load for 5 or so minutes to cool it down before shutting it down.

I have the same genny in my Pinnacle. The same thing happened this winter to me too. I left the bay door cracked open and the heat build up was not that remarkable, hot but not bad. Try that next time, maybe.
