Angry Jay Command Junk

Like most i have the Jay command tablet that controls everything in the 2022 Eagle 317RLOK its not even a year old and the screen no longer functions its no longer turns on period. Thankfully my travel plans were saved by my cell phone, which has the jay command APP on it, otherwise the only thing that works with the tablet are the hard wired buttons below the screen that controls the slide-outs and awnings. Without the app i cannot control AC, Heat or Hot water. The Dealer says they see them coming in brand new rigs NOT WORKING!. They took out the switches and buttons that worked just fine to control all the functions of your coach and replaced it with a android tablet P.O.S. (Piece of ****). It looks like i have to buy replacement tablets when i go off warranty? Anybody think we can file a class action suit to force Jaco to pay for these $99.00 tablets that don't work or LAST? Its not right and i certainly am not the only one who has had these tablets fail within a year or two.

We bought our current camper off a show floor. There were 2 identical 33RBTS's one had Jay Command and one didn't. My wife who loves gadgets and apps begged me to take the one with it. I held firm and took the other one.

I am so thankful as I hear nothing but people with problems with them.

On our 2020 pinnacle, which was the first year BMPRO was used I believe, has been trouble free other than the L/R tire pressure sensor not connecting intermittently. The tablet has been on continuously for over 2 years now, and from what I read I'm thinking the next time the power is disconnected it's likely I'll go through a tablet battery replacement.

I am thinking that if you pull the batteries like I do when the rig is going to set for a few months it may cause the tablet to fail. Jaco support told me that if the screen is flashing that it needs to be connected to shore power for 48 hours after that if it don't work it needs replacement. If you have had yours powered up and not let it sit without power then I suspect thats why its still working. When the dealer told me they get units in DEAD on Arrival that leads me to believe that the tablet needs to have a constant power source after all it is a dang tablet! So looks like i may have to keep the rig constantly plugged in to keep the tablet from failing.

HELP GUIDE
CONTROLLER POWER GUIDE

POWERING YOUR ADVENTURES2
NORMAL OPERATION
DISCHARGING
CONTROLLER STATUSDISCHARGING TIME
Off with 100% battery195 days
On with 100% battery3 hours
The Controller turns off 10 seconds after the system power is turned off or removed, to
reduce the battery discharge level.
The Controller is on only when there is power to the system in most situations.
Unexpected Controller Discharge
There are a number of reasons why the Controller battery may discharge unexpectedly:
9The Controller was manually turned on and left on.
9The system is powered on and then powered off before the initial BMPRO screen is
displayed on the Controller. If this happens, the Controller will remain turned on until
system power is recycled.
9The Controller has been stored or not regularly used for long periods of time.
9The Controller has been subjected to low temperatures.
The recommended operating and charging temperature of the Controller is between 32F
and 113F (0C and 45C).

POWERING YOUR ADVENTURES3
CHARGING
CONTROLLER STATUSCHARGING TIME
Controller left on without charge,
discharged for one day0.5 hours
Controller left on without charge,
discharged for more than one day
0.5-2 hours
Controller has been stored or
operated in low temperatures
The Controller turns on when there is sufficient internal battery voltage.
It is recommended to leave the system on for at least 2 hours to ensure there is enough
charge.
Controller Display Not Functioning After Attempt to Recharge Battery
If the Controller battery has been charged for more than 6 hours and the display panel does
not turn on, the Controller will need to be replaced.
NOTE: Under normal operating conditions, a Controller should retain its battery status as the
system controls the Controllers power.
NOTE: Deeply discharged Controller batteries may take 48-72 hours to fully recover before
normal operation can continue.
STORAGE
When the Controller is not being regularly used, it should be charged to between 55% and
75% every 3 months to maintain optimum battery condition.
For long-term storage, it is recommended to keep the Controller at a temperature between
32F and 113F (0C and 45C).
If your Controller has been affected by cold temperatures, it can be removed from the wall
and placed in a warmer area until it returns to normal function. The JAYCOMMAND app can
be used from your smartphone to allow control of your JAYCOMMAND system. For more
information, refer toRemoving the Controller.
BMPRO does not recommend heating electronics with warming devices which are not
specifically designed for that purpose.

wow looks like i have a new job thanks for that information!, instead of just using switches like the good old days to control your rig I have yet another job of babysitting the android tablet power needs. This could be the tipping point to sell the Jaco and buy a tent. Thanks everyone for your input.

I really do not like the Jay Command, or any of the systems like it. We're looking at new 5vers, and a major bonus for 5vers is having regular switches.

The only saving grace is you can use your phone instead of the tablet. I do like being able to use my phone to control the rooms and awnings while I am outside the camper.

I agree that Jayco should recall all of them and replace them with something worth a crap, as it is starting to become an issue affecting their reputation.

I am going to raise the issue with my dealer maybe they can put some pressure on Jaco to come up with a long term fix. I am not happy, the only savings grace is the phone app without it you would be SOL. I don't like the idea of cooking my batteries 365 days a year, having to pull them and check water levels every month. i'm 65 yrs and those batteries are dang heavy. When i don't use my rig i pull the batteries and put them on a battery maintainer in my garage, My rig is in a covered storage unit so down the road i go for this new chore........

The push button remote did that just fine in 2015.

BMPRO actually originated in Australia if you look at their history.

Can you still use the buttons below the tablet if the screen on the tablet itself is not working?

i don't know in all circumstances of failure, but in my situation yes the buttons do still work for slideouts and awnings. Placed a call with Jaco support this AM asked how i am supposed to maintain the tablet and tech support said Jaco is looking into a resolution for tablet failure when not connected to battery. Tech suppoort also stated for long term storage that you should pull the batteries just like i have been doing. Tech stated many customers are seeing issues with the most recent software patch too, so I think Jaco is sorry they ever went down this path. Still plan on voicing my disappointment with my dealer and demand a resolution. I am not going to babysit this thing.

Being new to Jayco I was not aware of that. Did the remote work both the rooms and the awnings?

the buttons at the bottom of the BMPRO command tablet will still run slides and awnings and also the jaycommand app for your phone can run everything should the tablet fail.

I'm 56 and happy with the Jaycommand. But I keep my rig plugged in and can check the water in the batteries without "pulling" them.

Even in the hot south the batteries only need water a few times a year. The onboard three stage charger does a good job at maintaining and not cooking the batteries.

Why did you buy the camper if you wanted hardwire buttons and switches?

There are other units out there for folks that don't like tech!
