jayco 1998 designer 5th wheel

good morning,
new to this site and a new owner of an old Jayco designer 1998 5th wheel.
bit of a learning curve...trying to figure out how to lower the awning..
any help out there...tried youtube and google but nothing for this model which seems unique design of awning.
Help if you can.
thanks

Might want to try reaching out to Jayco; nothing to lose by trying?

We had a 98 Designer XLT fifth wheel. It was a very good trailer. Long time ago, but I remember using a steel rod, about two feet long with a 90 degree bend on one end. Used it to reach up and hook into a fabric loop near the center of the awning. Then pulled it out and down to the open position.

I can't remember, but I think there was some type of latch holding the arms to the side of the trailer when the awning was retracted. They had to be released prior to opening.

I do remember, that awning was very strong and well built. Much better than the newer power awnings. Hope this helps. Enjoy your Designer.

I had a 98 Hitch Hiker. The awning on it had a lock on the right side at the end of the roll that had to be unlocked with a long metal rod. The lock was not really obvious. Then you used the rod to hook into a loop of canvas in the center of the awning and just pull it out. You may have to get up on a ladder to find it the first time. Good luck.

You will find a travel latch at the right end of the roller that has to be released before the awning will roll out and as someone mentioned there should be a rod and that is used to pull the strap (usually In the center) rolled up with awning with a small loop hanging out. Also make sure your latches are disengaged on the arms. Take the rod and pull the awning out.

yes I found the latch..put it in t he up position.
my awning sits in a saddle in the center. thinking I need to elevate the telescope arms on the sides to lift out of saddle as the center strap will not move or unfurl the awning when it rests in the saddle...the side arms will not lift up to get awning out of saddle????any other thoughts...just curious should the latch on the right be up or down to release?

Question Awning

The latch should be down and the arms have a locking devices (knobs) one on each arm unscrew them about halfway that will let the arms release when you pull. Can you post a picture of your awning arm right side? The middle saddle (which stops the awning from bouncing as you travel) normally they rotate when you pull the awning out .
