Jayco 355 MBQS

Just curious: what other manufactures did you consider before purchasing your Jayco?

Highland Ridge, Montana, Alpine, and Big Horn. Ended up with a North Point

Hey, we have not purchased the 355MBQS but its currently our #1 option. You and I have discussed this a little over DM, but this is our current list of comparable floorplans we've looked at in case anyone else wants to weigh in on these:

Jayco Eagle 355MBQS
Jayco Northpoint 377RLBH
Coachman Chapparal 391QSMB
Coachman Chapparal 392MBL
Grand Design Reflection 367BHS
Grand Design Solitude 377MBS
Highland Ridge Roamer 371MBH
Forest River Sandpiper/Sierra 372LOK

We really want some semblance of an outside kitchen and good counter space in the kitchen.

We looked at all of the big manufacturers with the similar floor plans. Tried to stay with the big manufactures just in case there were issues.

Jayco
Forest River
Keystone
Thor/Heartland and many others

Ended up choosing 2018 North Point 377 RLBK took delivery about 2 weeks ago. The DW fell in love with it and it appeared to be the best bang for the buck. I used RV Direct to get the original quote and found a local dealer willing to talk. Sleeps I say 9.5 the half is the bunk in the mid bunk room. The euro bunk in the living room, which is new for 2018, the kids really like. Pics posted in photos on the forum.

Of those choices, North Point, and Grand Design Solitude are the best two choices. We went with Northpoint 387...no issues...very happy

Have you looked at the Palomino Columbus 377MB or 377MBC ? They are on our short list along with the 355MBQS.

Forest River also makes the Sierra 372LOK with that Floor Plan.
Keystone has the Montana 3950BR

Out of all the middle bunks i've seen, the North Point 377RLBH is by far the most well-thought-out. I think they started the trend and capitalized on it while the rest of the manufacturers attempted to recreate it and haven't really capitalized on it yet.

I am starting to look at upgrading my TT to a 5th wheel. I am interested in the 355MBQS. Just when I though I had figured out the payload issue I am now totally confused again. The payload sticker on my truck says 2042 pounds. Does the pin weight of the 5th wheel count against the payload? If so, I will need to look at a smaller 5th wheel. My truck is a 2017 Chevrolet Duramax 2500HD. Still just a bit confused on the weight and payloads. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the pin weight counts against the payload. And so does all the other people and things in the truck cab and the truck bed.

With that trailer loaded, the pin weight will be ~3,000lbs (.21 * 14,250).

A 5th wheel alone with a gross weight of ~10,000lbs (.21 * 10,000) will be just over your truck's payload even before you start adding the other payload things.

No advice. Just the facts.

i pull the 2016 with the 2003 in my signature.
The 2106 355MBQS has a GVWR of 13750lbs, I believe the 17s & 18s are higher and have more pin weight.

According to the scale and the stickers on the door of my truck, my payload is actually a little higher than yours at 2250lbs.

Scaled, I am over the GVWR on my truck by 500-600lbs when loaded for a trip. I am under the Tire and axle ratings. I am under GCVWR by 1000 lbs.

All that said, this is the biggest trailer I would pull with my 2500. I know some pull bigger and don't seem to care. My next truck will be a 350/3500, but sitll SRW as I have to park in parking garages for my work, and a DRW is just too big....

I would look at a smaller camper like the Eagle HT 30.5MBOK (same general floorplan, but the bunk area is different, same as our 2016.) or get a bigger truck. That is just me...

Thank you for that response. The 30.5 is my next option. Like you, when towing I want to be safe. Travel with grandkids. It just seemed to me I would be over pulling the 355. Thanks again.

Your truck will be fine. Add airbags and dont look back. I was pulling a 43 ft 3 axle toy hauler with my old truck...

As a first time RV buyer we looked at all of them, and I mean all of them. Took about a year (and the wife nearly killing me) before we finally made the purchase. The best advice I could give is to go to a big RV show and walk into every RV you see. You will get a sense of the pros and cons, floor plans and figure out what you really want.

At the end of it all we purchased a 2016 Eagle 321rsts and absolutely love it. The floor plan is perfect and the quality sold me on Jayco. I'm a bigger guy and when walking through most of the other RVs I thought I was going to fall through the floor.

Yep, we shopped all of them. Walked through probably 100 of all different mfgs. We settled on our Jayco because of the floorplan and length (I wanted no more than 35ft and 12000llb).

Anyone see Jayco's website? Looks like the 2018 355MBQS got bigger and heavier. Think they did that just for the king bed or to strengthen the frame? I heard they were having problems with cracks in the fiberglass walls due to frame flexing.

I saw that. Lotsa stuff to see on the 2018s now! Longer as well isn't it? Still no dang sink and fridge still seems to be the mini one in the outside kitchen on the MBQS. So close to perfect floorplan! Love the loft, but think we might have to go 325BHQS.
