Jayco Eagle 365BHS

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and enjoy reading the post.

My wife, Kitty, and I currently have a '97 Jayco Designer TT and love it. We have been looking at the 2010 Jayco 365BHS as a replacement in order to take grandkids with us. My concern, Is my current tow vehicle "hoss" enough to pull it safely. (to anywhere in the USA). I have a '07 Chevy Duramax Diesel 2500 Alison trany.

If any of you have a 365BHS, what do you pull it with/or what would you suggest.

Any input is appreciated

Shorty, welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum! There are quite a few 5'er owners here who will respond to this and offer some good input. You have experience which is great and are thinking ahead to enquire regarding your tv..... One thing we know is that you should consider not only the towing capacity of your tv, but do you fall within the range of your GCVWR. We also upgraded so as to take our grandkids camping with us. Man, that is a sweet looking rv. I love the floor plan. Let us know what you decide!

Welcome to the Forum, Shorty and Kitty. I'm betting your current tow vehicle will handle the larger, heavier trailer but check your owner's manual for its rated tongue weight and GCVWR. If you no longer have the owner's manual, call your nearest Chevy dealer and get the info there.

One other consideration is whether you intend to tow the trailer in mountains. The rule of thumb is that for every 1,000 feet in elevation you lose 3 percent engine efficiency. Thus if you tow in mountains that are 10,000 feet high you will have 30 percent less engine efficiency than you would have at sea level.

I have a 07 Jayco Eagle 325BHS and towed it with a 07 Dodge diesel 2500 and it pulled like a dream. I don't know what the weight differences are between yours and mine. I now have a 2010 3500, but have not towed my 5th wheel with it yet.

Check out Trailer Life's 2006 tow guide:

http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?ID=42175

In 2008 I pulled the rockies 4 times with an F250 diesel and blew right by gasoline autos over heated. I think you are fine.

Wanted to thank all that have responded. Kitty and I are still un-decided. My hopes was that a 365BHS owner would respond with both the pros&cons of the camper as well as info of what they recommend as a tow vehicle.

I'm too OLD to study the "tow ratings" in the owner's manual for my "duramax".

I currently tow a 10,000 lb Designer Series TT with not problems. Prior to the Duramax I towed it with a 1/2 ton which labored it, plus I did not safe while on the road.

If we get the BHS, I will keep you posted.

You didn't say which cab you had, the bed length, or if it was a 4x4-- too many variances. So you'll have to put aside your "oldness" for a few minutes and look at what you got. To me it looks like your truck can tow between 12K and 14K lbs.

Dry weight on the Eagle is 12K and Gross is 16K-- so just looking at the numbers I's say you'd be pushing it. Just my humble opinion though.

Camper 10

I just purchased a 2010 Jayco fifth wheel 365 BHS this fall. I traded up from a 2004 Jayco 29 FBS travel trailer and loved the camper for 7 summers. The 365 BHS camper is awesome for a family with kids and thier friends. I pull the camper with a 2004 Dodge 3500(Diesel-5.9), single axle, long bed, 6 speed man. transmission. The truck pulls the wheels off of the camper! I get 12-13 miles a gallon and no problems at all. The 365 BHS pulls better than the 29 FBS. The only problem I have encounter was air flow to the bunk house. I leave in Texas and it is very hot! Jayco said there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner. Any suggestions? I blocked off the duct pass the vent in the back and added a addition vent in the bunk house. I also made a box and installed it in the main air conditioner to push all of the air to the back vents. I have two units and the front unit is ducted to the front bedroom and bathroom. I will try out the air and see what happens.

Also here with a 02 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins and pulls the 29 foot Jayco eagle like its not there...

But find more on your specs the owners manual of the truck should provide what you need.

be careful

we bought our 2010 365bhs brand new. we love the floor plan. none other like it. we modified one bunk for a kennel for our Weimereiner. The AC on these units will not cool the bunk house section..poor design and no air flow. Jayco tells me the systems are not engineered. we have two airs with a total of 2.5 tons of ac and it wont cool 450 sq ft. back to the dealer in two weeks to let them try again for the 4 th time to "fix it". the ducts are not designed like your home so there is no way to build pressure. we love most everything else about it.
i pull with a 2007 F250 crew cab 4x4 with a Stroker. it pulled ok until i did engine mods. much better now. good luck!

A/C
I have your exact camper. My air in the bunkhouse was horrible and I live in Texas. I tried everything possible to fix the problem and I finally put a 3rd A/C unit in the bunkhouse. The door is one of the problems, because it will not let the return air go to the unit.

I own the same unit and tow it with a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 crew cab with a diesel and airbags. Have had no problem at all towing the larger 5th wheel.

We have a 2012 365BHS and my 03 Duramax 2500 SRW handles the unit without a problem. However, IF I was planning on pulling it alot (we leave ours perm parked for the most part) or on long trips, I would most likely step up to a 1 ton dually.

pin weight is pretty high for a SRW. DRW would be better. You're technically overloaded or very close to it with the SRW.

I have a 2012 365 Bhs and pull it with a 2011 Gmc Duramax 4x4. Pulls like a dream without any issues, did add airbags. And yes the air in the bunk room is not great on hot days, but my wife and I keep the camper so cold most of the times the kids stay in the bunk room where it is warm.

Shorty, don't take chances with your equipment. Make sure your truck is rated for the weight you intend to haul. Your truck tires have to be able to handle the tongue weight.
I've heard that an insurance company can refuse to pay for an accident if you are not driving a legal unit, because of weight ratings.
We have a 2013 Eagle Premier 365BHS that we bought a year ago. We took it from Ontario to Florida this past Winter. We live in the unit and we bought it for the two of us and use the rear bedroom as a sewing room for my wife who is a quilter. It is close to the maximum weight rating. We tow with a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually with a 5.9 Cummins, 325 hp. When we get rolling it's great but it's hard to get moving especially on soft ground or on an uphill.

I have a 2006 GMC 2500HD Sierra Crewcab 4 wheel drive with the Duramax and Allison and also have a 2006 325BHS 5th Wheel. The truck pulls the trailer like a charm, this trailer weighs about 11,500 lbs loaded. So the truck is not over the front and rear GAWR but a bit over the GVWR, but under the max towing capacity of the truck. It could use some air bags as it hangs a little low at the back.

Saskatchewan is quite flat but we do have some valleys and truck doesn't miss a beat pulling through them.

I have put a 4" exhaust and removed the cat, and have a Banks 6 Pack with the Banks air intake.
