Jayco Eagle - Front jacks extend in “bursts”

We have a 2014 Jayco Eagle Touring Edition with front electric jacks. When lifting the trailer the jack will work for a very short time then there is a click and they stop. If I let it set for just a moment they work again but only for a very short time. Retracting is not an issue. Looks like there is an auto set relay rated at 12.5 amps and I’m assuming this is the culprit.

This is a used unit and seemed to work fine but has been getting progressively worse until it takes a number of cycles to get the unit lifted. I tried the manual crank but that is not going to happen in my lifetime!

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Walt

It sounds like you have a landing leg that is about to fail. My 5th wheel was having trouble lifting also. Mine has a 20A resettable fuse, and it would trip every 45 seconds while lifting.

There was multiple reasons for my issues.
A. Factory wire runs for the lifting legs went from battery to rear of trailer to a control panel, and then back to front of trailer. 40+ feet 10AWG wire with a 2V drop in voltage at max current.
B. Lifting leg drive screw nut was becoming stripped that caused jerkiness in lifting operation and excessive current draw. I changed it out today.

I had changed my system in three steps:
A. Rewired from the battery for the lifting legs to shorten the wire run.
B. Added a second motor and converted the folllow leg to a lead leg
C. Replaced the lead leg with a new lead leg.

After rewiring the single lifting leg motor, the fuse never tripped, but there was still jerky behavior lifting. A bolt on the tie bar even snapped last week. I thought it was because of a follow leg problem, but the lead leg was the culprit.

I then converted to a dual motor for my lifting legs. I removed each leg, greased them and I decided that my lead lifting leg was about to fail because it was very jerky lifting. Splitting to dual motors allowed for easier identification of a bad lifting leg. Buying used always leaves a question of how the legs were used, and greased in the past. Even though my 5er was hardly used, it sat idle for a couple of years and the landing leg lubrication was ignored.

Read this thread below it might help you with your issues.

Thank you very much. I’ll check those items.
