Jayco Eagle HT owners with 6.5' truck bed owners, check in.

I've got the MorRyde orbital pin box on my camper, so I was sold a 'standard' 5th wheel hitch with my camper. It works great, but I wonder, with the newer design of the Eagle HT (among other designs) do you need an orbital pin box or slider hitch with a short bed ?

I was tempted to block the pin box out and test drive it to check the fit, but I've ended up putting the 5th wheel away for the year before I had a chance. I measured the heck out of things and I *think* the nose of the camper would offer enough clearance. Just curious if anyone has some real world experience with it.

I have 2016 26.5 by it will hit the fan with short bed. I have to turn sharper than I did with my travel trailer I had before the 5th wheel. My truck is a 2013 2500 chevy crewcab. I have only used slide twice in 3years. It will hit the cab on more than about 50 degrees of turn very rear to have to turn that much with short trailer

I have a 2016 Eagle HT 27.5RLTS and pull it with a Ford F-250 with the 6 3/4” bed. I have a Husky 16K slider but haven’t really come close to hitting the cab. I’ve backed in sharp. Made u turns etc without any problems. It is comforting to have the slider if needed though.

I had a 2017 Eagle HT 27.5 rkds towed by a 2017 Ram 2500 Cummins with standard bed and put the trailer through the rear window. Shattered the window. Had a slider but unable to use it due to slope and oncoming traffic.No choice but to chance it and lost in that gamble.

Had 2017 26.5 with Chevy HD short bed. No slider. Never an issue. Could probably get 70-80 degrees out of it.

Nathan—we just picked up our new 305 CKTS last week and towed it home with our 2018 F250 w/6.75 bed. I’ve got the Anderson Ultimate gooseneck hitch for my rig. Going to a large parking lot tomorrow to practice maneuvers and try to learn a little more about how pulling a fifth wheel differs from the hitch pull we’ve had in the past. Hope this set up works well for us. If not, will have to see about other options—but, I’m optimistic!

We have a 2018 28.5 HT and a 2017 F250 Lariat short bed and a fixed ProEagle hitch. We have towed our 5th wheel for 2 years with no problem. We can get at least 70 degrees of turn or about the same as I could get with our previous tow behind. We do exercise caution and don’t get crazy.

I have a 2018 27.5 rlts which I'm towing with a 2015 f150 5.5 ft box. After much research I chose a Pullrite super glide. I've had it at about an 85 degree angle and haven't hit the cab. Pricey but worth it.

I have F250 SB using the Andersen Ultimate hitch, standard Lippert pin, I can't get to 90°, but more because the pin will hit the bed rail. I can get at least 75 -80°. One summer of towing and no issues!

Let me know how much cab clearance you have with that hitch, what is your turn angle. I’m curious cause it is a lightweight easily removable solution. I’ve had to crank my trailer a couple of times and been real thankful for the auto slider.

This is our first fifth wheel, and spent a couple of hours on Friday in a huge parking lot practicing turns, backing into a camping spot, etc. I did a couple of sharp turns while backing and probably got to 80 degrees before I was within about 8 inches of “cab meets trailer”. Probably good enough for most any situation I might get into—hope so anyway. We’re taking our new rig camping this coming week at Tyler State Park, not far from where we live, just a three day shake-down trip. Sure looking forward to it! BTW, I installed two rear SumoSprings on my F250 yesterday. Anxious to hitch up tomorrow and see how those work for us—will report how it goes.

Does your TV have the factory Installed camper package? And is it the factory 5th wheel or above bed with rails? Put your truck and trailer configuration in your signature, it will help you and all of us in the future.

No, my truck didn’t have the factory installed puck system. I had a B&W turnover gooseneck hitch installed locally—everything is under the bed, and that’s what the Anderson hitch sits on. If I can figure out how to do the truck/trailer info, I will add that!

Go to your “user CP” it’s all there and fairly straight forward. Look for signature.

We have the PullRite Superglide for our HTX. Works great all the way to a full 90 with plenty of room to spare. Two drawbacks though. The hitch plate sits real high with no height adjustment. I installed a Correct Track system to raise the 5er a couple inches. It is still a little nose high but it'll do. Also with the PullRite you have to hitch up pretty much straight on to align the little block on the pin adaptor up in the hitch plate.

I have a 2015 F250 (6 3/4' bed), installed Curt non-slider with a 2017 Eagle HT 27.5 rlts with no issues. I have pulled off a few u turns with no problems. My 2017 HT also came with the Reese (forgot the name of the extender piece they used), but no issues with hitting the cab of my truck.

I now have a Chev Silverado 2500 with Standard bed and really don't think I need the slider hitch at all. Seems like there is more room in the bed compared to the Ram.
