jayco eagle landing gear

Hello. I have a 2007 jayco eagle with a front landing gear problem. The passenger side works fine, but the driver side wont go up or down. I tried using a scissor jack while powering the foot down but it wont move. Any ideas what I can do to repair this? Thanks for any help!

I have the same year and unit as yours and I had the same problem as yours but mine was caused by stupidity. I ended up bending my drivers side jack and I ended up having to replace my leg. The cause for the bending was I had my jacks sitting on the ground not on a block and they froze to the ground and on trying to loosen it the jack bent. If you have to replace it you might have a problem finding a new one as the length of it are different on the 2007's than other years. Good luck!!!

I have had a similar problem with my right front landing gear.

The pinion gear key was not properly seated when originally installed and over time worked its way out. This allowed the gear attached to the drive shaft to free wheel, and thus would not raise or lower the leg.

And, you have to be Houdini to try and seat it back into place without disassembling the entire landing gear. This first happened to me on our way to Alaska, and I worked on it in a campground outside Whitehorse, YT. Fortunately the key was still in the goop of grease lubing the gear so I was spared having to locate a correctly sized replacement.

Look up your landing gear and get a good schematic of the parts so that you can see where your issue may be located and attempt a repair.

Good luck!!

Hi, First time owning a fifth wheel. Do you have to leave the landing gear down for the winter? Also, the rear stabilizer jacks should be in the up position, right? Do you put boards under your tires so they are not sitting inthe frozen snow and ice. Thanks.

richie you could use lego style blocks under the tires or boards if you wanted to but other than a tripod stand under the front i am sure the front landing gear is designed to hole that weight for long periods of time.

Can you access the top of the leg? Can you see the drive rod from side to side? Is is turning all the way to the other side? Did the bolt shear?

With proper jacks and blocking I would secure the rig on both sides or better yet hitch it up then look.

Once secured start with working the motor to confirm all drives are turning correctly. Then on the top of each leg is a U cap that pops off and exposes the drive gear. If your drive gear is turning and nothing further happening check that the pin is set between the top gear and drive shaft running down the leg. If it is and the leg is not moving then the whole thing has to be replaced as the internal drive is broken.

My first ODS leg sheared at the shaft from a grommet failure that resulted in the shaft scoring during each revolution until failure. The gear came off in my hand with the small part of the drive shaft still in the gear.

Depending on your configuration access might be restrictive and require taking off some trailer skin.

I had the same problem. On my trailer there is a shaft that goes from the motor on the off door side to the landing gear on the door side. A shear pin or bolt connects the shaft to the motor. The bolt had fallen out. The dealer replaced the bolts and put some lock tite (blue) on the nut. The shaft is accessible in the storage compartment on the off door side.

If the landing gear only has one motor , eTrailer has a kit to convert to A motor on each leg. I was going to this before going with the auto level system.
