Jayco Eagle Super Lite Wheels and Tires?

We have a 2008 Jayco Eagle Super Lite it comes with 15" wheels and 225/75R15 Tires

I was wondering if anyone has been able to fit a 16" wheel and a Michelin XPS LT225/75R16/E

we have about 5-5 1/4 inches in between the tires.

and we can raise the camper up about 2 in. with the bolt that mounts the leaf springs to the frame since it is in the lowest hole

or is it just better to go with something like a Maxxis 225/75R15

On different RV forums, I've read about other folks installing larger size wheels. If I remember correctly, many of them recommend a minimum 3" gap - between wheel and nearest fender touch point (while trailer is "average" loaded). These other folks install larger size rims/rubber and it works great. re: More chassis ground clearance (to save plumbing lines) and slightly smoother ride.

And for even better / smoother ride, they also install shocks on each wheel hub. If I remember correctly, there's 2 different brand of TT/5er shock kits. I hear monroe makes a good Trailer Retrofit kit. Or, your local welder guy can make their own kit - whichever is best. Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum J4Nash! We personally haven't explored that mod for our tt and probably won't. I really can't remember anyone talking about changing out their wheels or tires here but vaguely remember a discussion about it. BUT! Please come back and post in the MODS section of this forum and post pics if you decide to do it. Tell about the challenges, how ya did it, what you wound up replacing them with, etc, etc. Others here would love to see how it worked out for you

I put 16' wheels and Duravis 250's on my fiver which are a very simalar tire. 215/85/r16. Raised my fiver about 1.5" You will be happy to get those "squishy" ST tires off your unit believe me!

Just wanted to through my 2 cents worth in here. Changing wheel and tire sizes is perfectly fine if you purchased a used unit or yours is out of warranty. If you change the wheel and tire size on a new unit it voids your factory warranty. I tried to get permission from Jayco to do this for a customer and they flat told me NO, it would void the warranty. Something to do with Engineering.

Just food for thought, that's all.

*warning warning*
If you do this.. make very sure that you have enough room from the top of your tires to the bottom of the wheel well.. You may find that you will rub through the wheel well.

I am seriously considering ordering an Eagle Super-lite. If it cannot be ordered with 16 wheels , we will do it on our own. If Jayco has a problem with that and says it will void warranty , it will not be a Jayco then. This should be standard equipment on any fifth-wheel.
My last 3 trailers have had the tires switched over to 235-85-16 BF Commercial Ta with 0 problems or blow outs. I do it for the increased safety of the heavier tire and the ground clearance needed for my rig.
I would run the risk of a Lippert frame before running a fith-wheel on 15inch st tires.

Anybody doing this make sure you have room above the tires in the wheel-well because I have seen a lot of trailers that it just would not work.

LOL! Of course you have a pretty souped-up engine! Silly me, but the spelling is now correct. Computer generated? Nope, not here. The beauty of this forum is we are definitely more like a family without the little cliques, and the posts are posted by people

Check your clearances very carefully... you may find the tops of the wheels dont have enough clearance... remember the suspension travels and you dont want a wheel digging into the living area

i will gain an inch in wheel hight going to 16" from 15" but i have two notches to move my leaf springs down which should give me another 1.5-2 inches so it should be fine

My first Eagle a 2005 model was the smallest available at the time sported 16" wheels with E Range tires.

I did the wheel and tire swap to 16" after my first season. I had lots of height clearance and plenty of room between the tires. I have an 09 25.5 rks. My springs are mounted on the lowest hole in the jake plate. It came that way from the factory.

I just ordered a new 2011 Eagle Super Lite 5'er and the dealer offered me an option I was not aware of. This option is NOT currently listed on the Jayco website yet but is valid for sure.

I have a copy of the 2011 Eagle Super Lite Price Sheet and proposal form in front of me which lists all the Eagle Super-Lite 5th wheels and the options available, along with MSRP pricing. It says "Revised Date: December 22, 2010".

What is interesting is that there is an option (#11958) called "Deluxe Package" and includes:

Solid surface kitchen counter-tops
(2) solid surface sink covers
16" Aluminum Rims
and 8 Cu Ft Refrigerator

Price is $1850 MSRP

The option was too pricey for me, and strange that there is no stand-alone separate option for the counter-top upgrade OR the 16" rims.

Take this info for what it's worth...a call to Jayco might be worth it if your looking into 16" wheels and still want to maintain factory warranty.

I doubt very seriously if any manufacturer would give permission to make a change from what they have already engineered and produced. They simply aren't going to do this for any of us individually. This is the same as an engine manufacturer recommending crankcase oil. They will give you a specification and if you choose to use something else you are on your own. The same with tires/wheels. If you change it, you are the engineering department and the test center.
