jayco ht fiver pin box dimensions?

I'm presently shopping for a "lite" fifth wheel & the jayco 27.5 rlts is on my short list. Oddly enough, we have about 10 rv dealers near our homes & none stock the ht models. One of my prerequisites is the ability to replace the standard pin box with a goose box. Could someone tell me what the width of the pin box is at the mounting wings? I was strongly considering a rockwood model but found the spacing of the mounting wings was only 10"rather than the more standard 12".

Thanx
Denis

On the Reese site, it appears there are only 2 in production, model #94621 & 94622. I think one is for 12" pin box mount & the other is for 12.5". They are listed for several lippert frames as well as fabex (?) & a few others.

My HT29.5 BHDS is 12'' between the ears.

I've pulled gooseneck equipment and cattle trailers my whole life. After getting the companion slider I wish they all were king pin instead.

Agreed. I've towed both and I much prefer the king pin.

Thanx for the measurement, sledgehammer. I have no experience with a gooseneck & would prefer to return to a fifth wheel but I'm pretty much backed into a corner. I'm in hopes the air ride technology of the Goosebox is going to perform better than the conventional adapters that have been used.

I've heard --- but don't know for a fact --- that the extra length of the lever arm of a gooseneck adapter puts extra stress on the trailer frame and can cause problems. Anybody know about this for sure? If true, I'd be very concerned about putting a gooseneck adapter on my trailer.

might want to check with jayco or lippert to make sure it can be done and not void warranty

Gooseneck adapter has been an ugly phrase for years & probably rightfully so. A good friend was using one on a 42' toyhauler a few years back. I cautioned him to keep a check on the frame welds which he laughed off. He thankfully developed problems with his landing gear & the mechanic found a massive crack while replacing the motor. The Goosebox is different in the fact it completely replaces the stock pinbox rather than just an added attachment. It now comes with the blessing of lippert for use on their recently built frames & is actually offered as an oem option by some fifth wheel manufacturers. Open range now comes with a combo hitch that allows for a king pin or gooseneck setup. I fail to see how the stress is geometrically different with the Goosebox but if lippert is comfortable with it I guess they've got it figured out. I'll definitely check jaycos position on it, however, before I pull the trigger.

It is a 94622. I bought it second hand and decided not to use it. I will sell it at a loss.

I'll take $500 for my 94622 GooseBox. We'll figure out what to do on shipping.
