Just sitting here when it hit me

Just sitting here in our new North Point 315rlts and while looking at the residential refrigerator it dawned on me how can they repair it if the compressor or something in the back fails. Does the slide have to be removed and how much will that cost after the warranty period is up. 😱

On ours the island is in the way they have to remove the island to get the refrigerator out and if you had to replace the refrigerator it will not fit through the door you have to remove the slide. Either way probably big bucks.

Someone on here had to have their residential fridge replaced (I don’t remember who), it took six guys and they had to remove the dinette window to get it out and the new one in.

I asked my dealer the same question when I purchased my 2019 321RSTS. He told me you need to remove the frig doors and then it can be removed out the RV door. My big concern is what if it needs service? No room to slide it out and work on it with the island in the way.

My refrigerator was bad on delivery. It took 6 guys and a fork lift to get it through the dining room window.

They should have called the design engineer to help with the replacement.

He/she must have missed the last lesson on maintaining what you engineer.

A residential fridge in an RV just seems like a bad idea. Those compressors and electronics are not made to take the constant beating of life on the road. I think we will have a whole crop of people screaming in 3-5 years.

This was my thinking but I was told I was wrong. Maybe something is done to reinforce them for the vibration and shock of life on the road but I have my concerns about putting a refrigerator that was designed to be stationary into a moving vehicle that is going to be subject to the sometimes violent shock/vibration forces that occur on the road.

The residential refrigerators in the 5th wheels are counter depth and when you remove the doors and they will go out the 30 to 32 inch entry door.

I have friends who are on the way back from a road trip to Alaska and have not had any problems with the res. fridge in years. Now the suspension is a different story.

John, don't you think that if you took the doors off, you would have room to slide it out and turn it to fit between the island and the counter to the right of the island. Check the measurements of the fridge in the owners manual and check it out. Hope I never have to remove mine, but I bet it can be done.

You can STOP freaking out!! LOL
I have a Pinnacle with the residential refrigerator and when trailer was new frig. stopped cooling. Had it repaired i don't remember how many times.
In the second year, it got replaced with a brand new one. I
It will go thru the door and they do NOT have to move the island.
They can remove refrigerator doors and it will go out thru the door and new one goes back in thru the door.

John & I have the North Point. If I'm not mistaking, the Pinnacle comes with a wider and/or taller door..............correct?

Just got this when I asked Jayco about the refer removing:

Good Afternoon,
Thank you for contacting Jayco Customer Service. In regards to the Refer, This actually gets taken care of by the Refer Manufacture direct. They will decide if it gets replaced or repaired they also pay the labor for this. Whirlpool will need to be contacted Direct for this and they will advise you on who can work on this.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you

Go figure.........My reply:

I guess my question was, IF it needed to be replaced, does the entire slide need to be removed are will it fit through the door passage. I’m sure Jayco must have taken this into consideration, don’t you?

Will let you know if they answer me.

Residential Frig in ClassA

My dealer general manager told me that they have to take out the 12' windshield to repair a residential frig in the class A. Talked me out of residential frig!

My 10 cf RV fridge works just fine, almost too good, I added an inside air circulation fan to prevent frost on the cooling fins, and a thermostatically controlled set of muffin fans in the top of the vent flu to help keep the air moving. I was able to turn it down two notches and now it stays right at 36º/5º all of the time, even in summer. We only have shore power 50% of the time and I don't want a 110vac only fridge sucking my batteries via the inverter. Tell me, what happens if you have several cloudy days? run the genset for hours?.(remind me not to camp next to you ) IMHO an all around bad idea aside from possible repair headaches. If you always park where shore power is available then fine I guess.

Residential fridge

That’s exactly what my dealer told me. He also said to remove refrigerator, which entails moving the island and pulling the slide out, out, is an $800 repair bill alone.
