This is why I don't want slides!!!

And a lot of extra trouble. I think the coaches that have slides are beautiful, but everytime, I think just more to go wrong. My 23-footer has a queen bed, a 4 person dinette, 3 burner stove, oven, microwave, a dry bath with toilet, vanity, small tub with shower. My husband and I and 2 dogs are fine in it.

I do agree that it is a system that adds complexity. Just defending my 5er that has 4 slides. Hahaha.

Just think of the models with 5 slides!! Having to operate 3 slides with all fingers crossed is stressful enough............5 slides.....don't know if I could handle it......a real Valium moment

Hahahaha,
It amazes me that after this many years there is not a strong simple system that works almost every time. Wait there is. I wonder if having tanks and so many slides also negate the use of the rack and pinion system. You basically cannot put the rack and pinion where a tanks needs to be. Then having 4 slide does not help.
Another example is the master room slide, underneath that is the basement so you can use that down there.
I have not had problems with any slide yet but have only been Rving for around 4 years. So I am not as worried when I use them.

I did specifically make sure my RV did not use cables. My Mom’s RV had at least 5 repairs done because the cables pulled out.

I see Montanas all the time that have six slides. There are a couple at the campground we're at now. Talk about playing the odds...

I contacted Jayco customer service on June 26th asking them for the weight of my kitchen slide as built..............have yet to hear back.........followed up this morning. Will see if they can come up with an answer.

With a Power Gear Slim Rack system being used and this info available,

they may not give you a clear answer. It could open a can of worms for them.

I am trying to remember and cannot seem to find it. Did the mobile tech repair the wheels also and install metal plates inder the slide for you?

Dargo, no all he did was find the problem which I agree was a install defect. What you are referring to is an optional owner mod. My problem was a bad connection on the fridge side of the slide. The wiring harness was not making proper contact because of the way Jayco let the harness just dangle allowing it to get squashed by the slide when extended.

I received a call from Jayco today saying they will reimburse me for the repair plus the trip charge for the mobile rv tech, a total of $294.00. Jayco resolved my request within 72 hours of my requesting a reimbursement.............very pleased!!

Dave, the reason they reimbursed me for the trip charge is because the slide was stuck half way out and I couldn't bring it in, therefore I couldn't move the 5er. I had no choice but to use a mobile tech. Again, I'm very pleased

So glad things worked out and Jayco made things right. Thank you so much for posting this. Truly helps the rest of us. Happy trails to you and hope all this didn’t mess up your trip timeframe.

It's not unusual for them to reimburse the "Trip charge" if you are traveling and need a mobile tech.

Update: The kitchen slide has worked good since it was repaired two months ago. Just got to our new CG and it goes out all the way except for 1 1/2 inches. Tried bringing it in and out and still stops with 1 1/2 left to go. Not a problem now, but will need to have it looked at or maybe call Lippert for guidance.
