Lake Placid?

Contemplating going to LP to watch my nephew compete in Ironman this summer. Has anyone camped in or near here? How are the roads getting in/out of the resort area? We are newbies to pulling a 5r and a bit wary of towing on unchartered waters! TIA

Lake George is about 90 minutes away but it is a great location in itself. Lake George RV Park can handle anything you've got, has great facilities but is expensive. Ledgeview has less in the way of amenities but is is a nice park just up the street from LGRV Park, has easy access, is much cheaper but has a no-pets of any kind policy.

I've heard LG is beautiful but we will need to be closer to Lake Placid for the race and to visit family. Thank you!

I have a friend with a 40+ ft Jayco Pinnacle that camped at the Lake Placid KOA and said he had no problems with the road or the campground.

There's also the North Pole Campground in Wilmington, NY that you could check out.

Both are close to Lake Placid.

Hope this helps some.

We stayed at the Lake Placid KOA a couple of years ago and there was plenty of room to maneuver. The camp ground is heavily wooded, with very little grass and lots of pine needles. Expect to have to clean pine sap off of everything.

From the road the North Pole Campground that ROC-REQS mentioned looked a little more open.

If u r going up there book it now. My summer camp is in Keene and the entire area closes down for the race and everything is full. My camp pic is my signature.

Also love Lake Placid KOA. Right across from Whiteface Mtn. Olympic ski area, fun stuff to do there all year. My Seneca fits there just fine!

Ausable Chasm is another location, though outside the area. It's a 50 minute drive. Much closer than LGRVP.

Getting a site in the Adirondacks is hard enough for a normal weekend and most of the good ones fill up prior to Dec for major events. Some of the state roads can be tricky to navigate so my suggestion is to call the CG you settle on for any local knowledge.

I've only camped by Lake George but I did do a motorcycle trip around there 2 years back all around the Lake Placid area, and all the roads in/out were fine, can't recall anything that would make me worry about pulling a camper up there.

Fish Creek Pond is about 25mi (40 min) away from Placid. Beautiful state park, but no site services. I tow a much smaller combo (about 40' total) and have no problems with the roads in. Lots of mid-length 5ers in FCP, but not many venture further into Rollins Pond where we camp. Worth a look if other CG's are full.
