The ones I knew that retired were really worn out from having little choice but to arrest those that were in crisis or having to have them committed which was a drawn out process.

So more properly we need to fund emergency social service workers and take the cops out of that horrid beat.
100% agree with this ^^^. (As well as all advice to carry a jack, compressor and tools needed to change a tire, along with safety triangles or flares, and know how to do it. It's not always safely possible to change a tire, but be prepared for the times you can.)

I changed a flat tire in downtown Atlanta at rush hour with 6 lanes of traffic flying by me. If I can do it..... anyone can. I never leave home without tire changing tools and repair kits.

At the risk of keeping this horse alive I have to add this:

Sometime back a man wrote a letter to the editor of the local paper claiming that he was broken down on one of our freeways and was passed up by a state trooper who drove up the road a mile or so to a woman who was also broken down. He was, basically giving the highway patrol hell for helping the woman instead of him, since he was first in the direction the traffic was going at the time.

So, I really wanted to answer that letter and should have but I let it slide and maybe the newspaper printed it to show how ignorant this person was. My comment back would simply have been "if that was your wife or daughter stuck out there, who would you want helped first?" Damned if you do and damned if you don't but that letter took the "stupid for today" prize.

Be very aware and know if they are available where you are camping. Roadside plans do not cover much of Northern Maine on unpaved roads. However there are no LEO either. You are on your own

Not really. I don't support bad cops (or soldiers for that matter), and we have lost too many freedom loving Americans over stupid cops on the side of our roads.

So stop supporting the bad ones and don't be an offended victim so much.

I don't think any of us support bad cops or bad soldiers but before anyone goes off on military or police try doing the job yourself for a day or two. Firstly, few can make the testing process and fewer still last that long if they can't tow the line.

So here is a recent freedom loving American that police run into now and then.

Data please. Can't make a statement like that without data, unless you're just trolling.

According to the Washington Post, the renowned conservative think tank, a grand total of 183 people in the past 6 years were shot and killed while unarmed. Note that that includes all unarmed shootings, regardless of whether justified or not. So, people like Breonna Taylor are in that number.

If you believe that that is in any way a significant statistic, then you probably suffer from some form of brain damage.

Couple of thoughts, just like the overwhelming majority of RV'rs you meet are good people, the same or even more so can be said for the Police. With that in mind, around my part of the world they stay a bit busy with their duties than what would allow for them to cruise the highways for broken down motorist. I am sure if you flagged one down in a manner that caught their attention or they saw something urgently wrong (like an accident) that they would stop or at least radio for some other officer to help if they were on an urgent call already.

With that in mind, in an emergency you can always call for help (assuming cell phone reception) and interestingly enough here in Texas (and perhaps other states), the back of my license has the following written on it: TEXAS ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE 1-800-525-5555 I have never called it but I feel better knowing I could (at least when in TX). I wonder if any other states have this service? ~CA

One more thought , While I don't necessarily recommend to plug a leaking tire if you get a nail in it, and instead and as soon as possible I highly recommend to take it to Discount Tire and have it patched properly and for free, with that said though and especially for those without a spare, a tire plug kit will definitely work for almost all nail wounds in the tread of a tire. If you find yourself with an air leak due to a nail or similar and if you have a plug kit (<$20) and an air compressor you can easily make a repair that can certainly last the life of the tire. However I would still recommend that if you do plug a tire to get it patched when you can as again a patch is the recommended best repair. ~CA

Your title should be "Can't think for myself". Complaining about not seeing Law Enforcement for 6 1/2 hours is ridiculous. Maybe the Troopers were working a traffic related fatality miles from you. Troopers are not on the road to do tire repairs. That's your job.

Actually it probably needs to be locked. As I said earlier this horse was barely alive from the beating, and silly me I added to bringing it back.

BTW, I was checking the phone number I referenced earlier for Texas roadside assistance, 1-800-525-5555 and I found that number is also valid in a lot of states, not sure if all of them as I didn't check but a few states, but I see a common theme that in the need of roadside assistance to call from your cell *55 or 1-800-525-5555. I recommend everyone check the state they are in or travelling as you never know when you may have a breakdown. ~CA

In nm they have been several fatalities of officers helping stranded motorists by fools not paying attention.

Kind of like the Coast Guard. If you have a breakdown or get stuck in mud or sand they will not respond.

Your story has absolutely nothing to do with Law Enforcement. It has more to do with an inept RV'er. I'm tired of people blaming everything on the Police.
