Look what I forgot at the campground
Got back from camping this past weekend and I just realized this afternoon that I completely forgot my surge protector at the power pedestal. 
Lucky for me the campground is only a couple of miles away and my wife was able to drive there to see if it was still there. Sure enough it was! 
I think I am going to put together a check list before I leave the campground next time. At least I had it locked to the pedestal but for sure if someone wanted it they could have cut the cable off.

That was the one factor (well, that and theft) that made my mind up about installing a permanent surge protector in our fifth wheel! Those aren't cheap to replace!

I always pull the Surge protector out 1st, then disconnect the trailer 30 AMP cord from the surge protector, then put the surge protector back in its storage box, then go put the RV 30 AMP cord away.

I am glad you were able to retrieve your surge protecter.
I agree with JetTech hard wired is the better way to go-way to expensive to forget or have it walk off.
On my previous 26BH the first thing I did was to hard wire the EMS in. Currrenty I am waiting on my new trailer and once again that will be the first mod completed before anything else.

I never unplug mine from the service cord. It is part of the cord as far as I am concerned. I plug it in and lock the box with a padlock.
It's hard to forget that way because the lock is used on the hitch pin.

Good you were able to get it back. My problem is I leave stuff on the bumper of my truck or trailer and drive off like bike straps, trailer keys, bike cable with lock

I have this same bad habit! I try very hard NOT to put something down on my bumper.
I hardwired my EMS because I was afraid I would leave it behind otherwise.

Thanks for the great advice of those who have external surge protector.
From now on I will:
First - Remove the surge protector from the pedestal
Second - Disconnect from 50A power cord from trailer
Third - Put cord away in camper with surge protector still attached.
Those who have a hardwired unit in your camper I can certainly appreciate the benefit of that based on my recent experience.

I made cables for both ends of my surge protector and one for the 50 amp cord. I have pad locks for each. The cord locks to the SP and the Sp wraps around and locks to the power pole.
With the SP locked to my cord there's no way I can forget it.
I've left things behind before and figured that I needed to protect myself from myself.....gettin old ain't for sissies!

The only thing I (know) I've left behind - the locking hitch pin. Drove about 240 miles home before I discovered that I hadn't inserted it.
