Low profile ac

Considering changing out our forward 15k air conditioner to the 15k low profile Coleman Mach 8 plus. Has anyone done this? If so, other than a reduction in height, are there any other distinct advantages or disadvantages? Thanks in advance.

I was able to get the factory to install one on my Eagle. It wasnt an option. The mach 8 is about half the height. No issues with ours. Runs great and looks great. I regret not having the main unit a low profile too. The standard Colemans are big and ugly. The low pro units are nice. But I got cheap and only had the one.

It's the standard AC unit that measures 13.5" tall. The dealer will trade out our original AC to the low profile for $320 which includes installation.

Thanks for the info Mopar_Earl.

That's a good deal. I paid an extra 500 something to the factory on top of the second AC option to have the low pro installed. That's why I didn't have them do the main unit. Lol

We have two of the Mach 8 15K BTU units on our coach. The only issue with them is the blower fan (blade not motor) is known to come apart after a while. Apparently it's a design flaw. I keep a spare one on hand for that reason. The fan on ours made it almost two yrs, it will get your attention at 3am. Other than that the a/c units work great.

Good deal. Thanks for the info.
Hopefully the last one I put on was an updated one.

They are marked to tell. I don't recall the details. Read up on them before I pulled the trigger on the low pro unit.

I replace my mach 3 with a mach 8 on my TT so it would fit in my barn. It works great but sitting outside they are loud. They have done a modification to quite them but still much louder than standard. The switch out is easy to do though.

Does the low profile unit use the same roof cutout dimension? I have the high profile unit and I rough measured OAH at 13’ 7”, and that’s while level. I’m about 2” high when hooked up. I was not comfortable on our recent trip as I went thru some overpasses marked 14’.

AC units are standard with needing a 14X14 hole. So you can swap to different brands or different BTU or going from standard profile to low profile. The inside ceiling assemblies may or may not interchange between the stand unit and the low pro unit. If you go with a different brand, you would need their ceiling assembly.

I agree with Earl. The inside vent if you stay within brands is a simple quick connect and everything including the thermostat works through that one connection. There is an anti-freeze-up probe that must be placed in the coil or the coil can freeze.

I measured our high profile AC unit while hooked up to the TV and on level ground. It measured 13' 1" OAH. Not too bad but with the low profile it would be around 12' 8". Some of the turnpikes in OK have a posted max height of 13' 6".

When we bought our 2020 I had the dealer switch out the higher profile units to the Coleman Mach 8's. We have a garage for our Pinnacle with a 13' 6" door opening and I wanted to lose some height. We probably didn't need to change the living area unit but we did. Both are 15K with heat pumps and work very well. If I had it to do over again I probably wouldn't get a heat pump model for the bedroom as I don't think we have ever used it. In temps above 37 or so the living room unit does an adequate job.

Thanks very much. We have 2023 Grand Design Reflection with front ac unit. It is 12'10" overall height. That unit is 14" above the roof, the Mach 8 Plus will be 8.3" above, so I should be at about 12'5" with the swap. I will feel better going down the road at that height AND I can get in a barn where I store with a 12'7" height. Those tall units look hideous too!
