manual slide crank

Our 07 36RLTS fifth wheel had a slide motor conk out yesterday. The manual says I have a means of manually moving the slide, but gives no indication where this might be located. Does anyone know? Fortunately, the slide was in, so I could take it to a repair facility, and it was Friday, so they were open. I think they took off a panel underneath, but "due to insurance" I couldn't watch in the service area. I can only imagine if I had to lie on my back in the gravel/grass/mud, take off a panel (perhaps in the dark by flashlight) and how many turns of a 1/2" drive ratchet it would take to move the slide completely in or out. Anyone had experience with moving one manually? Thanks for the responses, in advance...david

You can move it if the gear box is not stripped. Take off the access panel and look up and see what size socket it is. It moves slowly with a ratchet wrench because movement is limited.

I had on go and we had to manually push it in to lose it, then secure it with poles inside to drive to the dealer.

my repair place will order the motor on Monday, and install when it comes in. I'm waiting on them to call monday with a cost, but gotta have it anyway. On a related subject, I see you have an 06 PSD SRW. What is the weight of your 351RLTS? Do you ever wish you had a dually? I bought a package from friends and have not been sorry for the dually when towing, but parking without the fifth wheel is something else. I park way out in the lot because it's so wide and about 25' long, takes a city block to turn around, haha! Any thoughts, norty1?

I had a Ford F350 CC dually prior to this rig. I did not like driving the dually as a daily driver or when we were traveling w/o the rig. The 06 is not over loaded in any area and has done the towing job for me for 6 years nicely. It is a pleasure to drive. The Ford PSD is not known for it short turning radius.

Thanks, no need, I just wondered if the dually is too much truck for this fiver. I weigh about 12K not heavily loaded and about 20K with the truck, on farm scales at our local mill. thanks, again, david

Well, our old 17z had a sticker up front warning not to tow it with a 1 ton or higher.

Beg to differ. Try negotiating any typical parking lot they build nowadays or walk a half mile from the outer edge of the mall to get back and forth to a truck that can't be pulled into a mall space.

I know that I will never need a bigger rv or truck so what I have is perfect.

I like my dually and that is all I will own to tow with. Had single wheel not as stable. Each to there own.

X2 I don't have any trouble driving in tight spots with my dually. You just have to be careful and remember she's fat

I guess it is just another case of personal preference.
