Manual v. Auto Slide Hitch
I’m curious what other SB owners think about manual v. autoslide hitches. I’ve got a Demco 18k Highjacker autoslide. Love the hitch; HATE the weight.
What say you?

Slider
Have the same hitch as you, agree the weight is a issue, Demco makes a great hitch, would not go back to a manual, just not worth it

I also have a Demco 18k autoslider and love it. It is heavy but i can manage if I break it into two parts.

I bought an engine hoist...gets it in the bed and close enough I just have to horse it around a few inches.

Reese 25k Elite fixed in my truck bed. No issues, no extra weight, no slider.

I have used a Pullrite Superglide for years. It makes for one less thing to consider when making a turn. It is heavy also, but I think the extra weight is justified by the convenience and safety of an auto slider; it's always there, and always working.

RVhiker, looked at the Superglide as well as the Demco, but was a little concerned about the capture plate on the king pin. I will say I’ve not read anything bad about Superglide! I agree as a new fiver driver I like not having to worry about a cab/camper ‘incident’. just a little tired of the weight. Of course I guess I could get a LB but then it’s not in the garage!

I had a Pullrite Superglide when I had my SB...........switched to the B&W Companion when I bought my LB dually..........both are great hitches. The Superglide only weighs about 65 pounds more..........in the scheme of things that's not a huge difference.

Or you can use a std hitch with no slide. Worked well for me over 11 years. Just pay attention.
PS for 6 of those years I had a manual slider. Used it one to try it out. Never used it again.

Works for me too. No way I'm pushing my trailer when it's 90deg to the truck anyway. I have no desire to buy a new trailer suspension after doing that.
I can get past 45deg with the fixed hitch. If I can't get into a site with that angle I don't want to be there anyway.

Beware! The closest I have come to hitting the rear window was when going forward, not backing up! Especially when there are dips or humps to go over.

I watch it any time I'm turning tight. With the tonno stacked at the front of the box I can see in the mirrors when the bottom lip of the cap is near the tonno. If it gets there then I still have 16" before cab contact. The only time I get close is slow maneuvers when parking.
