Material on recliner is splitting

We have a 2020 30.5 CKTS fifth wheel. Other than the normal stuff that has to be handled, it’s been a great experience. Just recently, the “material” on the back of one of our recliners has begun to “split” or come apart. The material appears to be some sort of woven type, but it reality, it may just be vinyl or some other man made product. My wife used some fabric glue on it to try to keep it from splitting further, but it didn’t help. Any thoughts as to how to address this issue before it gets any worse? So far, it’s only in one spot—and these recliners have not at all been abused! Thanks for any help from this owners’ group!

Are you still under warranty? If not I would still send a picture to your dealer and to JAYCO.

Nope, warranty is over and done. But, will contact Jayco—and our dealer—and see what they say. Maybe we will get lucky! Thanks!

Take it to the nearest dump and then go visit a local furniture store and buy something of better quality.

They'll more than likely take under consideration the ethical implications in knowingly selling furniture which will deteriorate into a dumpster quality state just after the warranty expires and stand by their product.

Hopefully! We like the recliners and the sofa. Both very comfortable and feel/look like quality furniture. Will keep looking for a fix rather than tossing it at this point—unless it starts doing the same thing all over it.

Not ready to give up on it at this point, but may come to that Thanks!

You are on schedule for Jayco furniture falling apart. My 2019 started to split last year. The next thing that happens it will all start blistering and you will have small vinyl particles all over the place. Many people have this issue and have to replace the furniture. We bought some of the vinyl stick on patch that we put on the back of the our love seat. Will see how well that holds up.

Well, got three years out of it! Guess that’s about par. Ours is not the fake leather; looks like a woven material of some sort. My wife says it’s “stamped vinyl”. For now, she’s going to make some headrest covers to hide the bad spot. That’ll work till it gets worse!

That is what we just put on our love seat. Very close match. Looks much better than the crumbling Jayco vinyl. We will see how the patch holds up.

Patch or replace are your options. The patch will stop it from spreading but doesn't look good in my opinion. The head rest will help conceal that patch.

As mentioned I would lean hard on Jayco to honor this defect. Persistence is key they likely will not extend the warranty on your first request.

Here's a picture of the seat of our recliners which started to peel after our warranty expired. That stuff is thinner then cellophane! Jayco must buy that furniture for pennies!

You mention head rest, do you know a way to add a head rest to get another 5-6" in height to love seat. I am too tall to lean head back on all the stock rv furniture and have been wondering if a head rest could be added somehow.

My wife bought us matching pillows that are about 9” tall and about 16” wide. When not used as headrest they go perfectly on the couch.

This is really freaky. We just got a spot that is the same size and looks to be in the same place this past week as yours. I guess I’ll order the patch from Amazon until it gets so bad that we’ll need to replace the furniture.

This is the stick on patch we put on. It actually looks pretty good. Allot of the lines you see in the photo is just glare. Looks allot better then it did when it was shedding all over the FW. When you walk in and look at our love seat you really can’t tell the difference. No we will see how long it holds up.Click image for larger version

I'm pretty sure that I read on a thread somewhere that there is a class action lawsuit working its way through the courts that addresses this issue. I'll do a bit of surfing later tonight (after the football game) to see what I can find.

Been like this for years. Our'16 pinnacle furniture lasted for 3 years before the furniture started peeling and falling apart
